so i went to the dmv and soc sec. office yesterday.... it was, eventful... there was almost an uproar at the dmv and the cops were called and soc security..... but i got things done and changed my name and address... they say i should get my card in the mail in 2 weeks.
not so much worried about the license, i have a temp.. but the soc security that i'm confused about. the woman said that my soc # still has my maiden name on it... and i can't change anything until i have the new card in my hand... so like... how do they know when i actually get it?
i'm still getting my pay checks under my maiden name.
anyone else going through this?

my office took a copy of the letter that SS gave me - it said i had requested a new card, blah, blah but it was with my new name and address on it ... did they give you anything? ...

I don't understand your post - when I went to SS and DMV, I only had to show them my Marriage Certificate. The DMV people didn't even ask for my Social Security card or a letter - just the Marriage Certificate.
I got the new cards in the mail a week ago so they were very fast!

I'm a little confused about your post as well.
I went to SS first. I filled out the paperwork at home and on my marriage license I already changed my last name so that was already noted. I receive my new Ss card in the mail 10 days later w/my full correct name (first, middle, hyphenated last).
As for DMV they didn't need my Social, just my current drivers license and marriage certificate. That's it.
No one gave me a temprary anything b/c my current DL and SS card were still valid.
As for your pay checks, my company needed my new SS card w/new name in order to change everything. I get my first pay check since the change on Thursday so we'll see what happens.

sorry for the confusion. i had no problem at the dmv. i went there first, changed everything and its all good. they gave me a 'temp' license (like they did when you first pass your permit test) i still have my old license, just the temp has my new last name and address.
its soc security i'm confused over. the woman there told me that my soc number is still tied to my maiden name, and it wont change to my married name until i get the card in the mail.
i just dont understand that. like she entered it in the computer... gave me a letter stating that i changed my name.... then why can't i do anything? she told me i can't change my payroll info until i get the physical card because my number is still under my last name.
i just don't get it.
i guess you girls didn't go through this?? i'll just wait till i get the card before i change anything.

long story short, they were letting people cut in line,.. and people were getting mad, so finally one woman went to the desk to complain and well... everyone else started yelling and trying to get to the front. i would have said something if my mother wasn't with me...

Sounds like the woman at SS just gave you wrong advice.
Your number should not change, only your last name. All she has to do is change it in the computer system and issue you a new card. *** was she talking about, I have no clue either!

i guess she means the number wont have your married name attached to it until they print the new card...
its not that she gave you the wrong info its that she didnt really explain it fully
