im in the medical field and want to continue using my name in the future. but.... if i change my name legally, thats what i have to use when writing my prescriptions and signing charts.... (i have been told this by numerous medical professions and two lawyers that work in the medical field) anyone in a similar situation?
i think im going to keep my name and go by my husbands last name socially . or another option is to take his last name as my middle name so i can keep using my last name for my profession. its a little different, but.... a compromise.
thoughts? comments?

I think it's ok to go by his name socially but keep your last name legally since you are already established in the medical field under your maiden name.

I agree- I plan on using my maiden name as a middle name and using it professionally because as a teacher it is not as legally strict... I also plan to publish under my maiden name keeping my professional identity is very important to me as I have had an uphill battle establishing myself as a professional and I want to keep that for myself.. you go girl!

I'm taking on FH's name (In my head I've already taken it on ) FH is half Chinese & his last name is hyphenated so I def can't keep my last name & my first name is Lisa-Marie but the Marie has over the years moved over to be my middle name, not to mention I don't have the best relationship with my 'Father' so ....bye bye last name

I'll be taking FH's name. I might keep my maiden name at work b/c I work with a lot of outside agencies, but we'll see.

I am taking FH's name...and I can't wait to do so. Luckily, I really don't have to worry with my career in regards to changing my name. Although, if I did - I would probably keep my name, but use Fh's name socially...

I changed my name right before I started my new job and it was a ***** to change at work. I just recently got everything in order and I got married in August. I really had to change it at work because I wanted direct deposit and they wouldn't do it with my new name on my account at the bank. Just make sure you find out the ins and outs of changing your name at work.

I took DH's lastname...and at work Im slowly easing into my new name,..I work with kids so it takes some getting used to, plus my new name is harder to say so my kids like my old name better

I am thinking about keeping my own name, but I think my FH is a little hurt by this.
Then I was thinkingI I could use my FH's name socially and keep mine professionally...how exactly does that work? Would I still have to legally change my name?

I'm not changing my name legally because I'm in the same psition as you, and I want to be Dr. 'madien name' not Dr. 'FH last name.' He didn't spend every fourth night on call, I did, I deserve it!
Also I had a friend who got married in between USMLE step 1 and step 2 and I she had tons of trouble getting her license. It really screwed her up when she was trying to moonlight, so be careful because depending on when you took your USMLE.

I am unsure of this but I think I'm keeping my last name. If anything, I'll add it on to first name middle name maiden name married name. But I'm such a feminist I might just keep it. Fh doesn't care at all and told me to do whatever I want.
