Name changes
Does anyone know when you are supposed to begin the name changing procedure? Someone told me that you should begin making calls and filling in forms about a month before the wedding. Is this true or do you wait until you are back from the honeymoon?

You can wait till after you are married. You will need your marriage license in certain places (bank, DMV, passport, Social Security, Brokerage accounts) but you can change utilities and credit cards with just a phone call. We have posted alot of info about this on the Newlyweds board. Do a seach there for lots more info :o)

Do you use your married name when booking the honeymoon?
Should I use my married name when booking the honeymoon, or my maiden name? I assumed my maiden name...but how will the resorts (or cruise employees in my case) no we are newlyweds? We booked the Penthouse suite but that doesn`t necessarily mean anything special. Also will I have a problem at the airport when checking in if I use my married name? Just curious I don`t want any problems at the last minute. Thanks

Do you use your married name when booking the honeymoon?
If you are travelling internationally, then NO, you can definitely not use your married name, since your tickets need to match your passport. I (as well as all my friends) used maiden name on the honeymoon, just to avoid any complications. And trust me, somehow people know you are on your honeymoon. Everyone guessed we were on ours, and I still have no idea how! :)

Use your maiden name on honeymoon!
Your tickets, etc. all have to match your id which you can't change until you have your marriage license which you won't get until you are home! Cecily is right - everyone seems to know you are on your honeymoon for some reason!! If not, definitely tell them! It can get you some nice perks!

Use your maiden name!
Definitely use your maiden name for the honeymoon. Or hyphenate it for the sake of the trip. You must have a ticket that matches the name on your passport or photo ID or they won`t let you on the plane or through customs if you are going international. It will not matter to them even if you show up in your wedding gown (haha). As far as resorts knowing you are newlyweds, your travel agent should tell them and it should be noted on your record. When we were coming back from our honeymoon, the Air Canada agent knew we were honeymooners and she moved us into first class. Make sure that the travel agent does note it everywhere, you never know what perks you might get!

another tip
I used to work for an airline and have this tip. Definitely make reservations in maidan name and bring your marriage certificate with you. Ask your travel agent to let everyone know you are newlyweds...but...many do not do this or there are mix ups...so whenever you check in somewhere (airline, hotel, etc) tell them again. Ask them to put it in your reservation. We used to put in a message and if there was ever a chance to upgrade the messages are looked at. (AFTER frequent flyers- people who fly more than 25,000 miles/year - they come first) If you are not using a travel agent - make the calls yourself to airline and hotel.Welcome New Vendors
