nope, not wierd. I think all or most pregnant women do talk to their baby in belly wether they use the name they have picked out or peanut, pumpkin, etc....

I think it helps you connect , its an emotional thing, I think its normal.
On an ABNORMAL note- I work in Health insurance, a lady calls last week and says:
Her- ' I have 30 days to add my newborn to the contract right?' Me- Yes Her-'well my baby hasnt been named yet' Me- 'Ummmm..OK...' Her-'What if I dont find or pick a name in that 30 days' Me- Ummmm..we can call her Baby girl till you do Her- Giggles..( like naming her child is funny??)...Well is this a weird wuestion...Like do you get a lot of people unsure of what to name their baby? Me- Not for 30 days ..no..sorry

Re: 'naming' ur unborn child
We have our names (short list for a girl anyway) already picked out but we are strictly keeping the names between me and FH.
Do you mean publicly naming the baby before it's born and telling people? Or just picking the name out?
I wouldn't say it publicly because I have heard of people give their opinion or tell stories about the name as if it's going to change the parents' mind

I actually don't believe in calling your child by your name before he or she is born. First of all, I won't find out if my children or boys or girls before birth. Second, in judaism, you don't do a lot of things to celebrate the baby before birth - for example, we don't have baby showers - it's bad luck.

i like the idea because it would feel like almost more of a connection being formed early on..

Re: 'naming' ur unborn child
In the Jewish faith, we name after the deceased so most of us tend to toss around names to make sure all relatives are accounted for - generally, the child is to share the same initial as the person who has passed away. Though technically, it is the HEBREW name that holds the honor.

Re: 'naming' ur unborn child
my best friend did it and through her pregnancy would talk to her belly and call the baby by it's name. It made it more real for her and I thought it was so cute

Re: 'naming' ur unborn child
I have names picked out, when Im actually PG im sure they will change. My sister changed her babies name right after he was born. No, I dont think its unusual. The names I have picked out are: Nicole Dawn Bryan Gregory I will use mine and DH's names as middle names. Not as first names. My greatgrandfather, down to my bro all have the same name and it gets quite confusing!

Not weird or bad luck at all. Personally, though, I like to get a good look at a kid before thinking of a name.
