WE had a blast on our short weekend - we had to postpone it by a day, because we both caught a bug and were in bed with 100 -101 temps. None the less Friday through Monday was great - we did a lot.
Our hotel (Dauphin Orleans) was just off Bourbon st.
We tried to do a little culture, a little party - and it kind of worked. We did a walking cemetery tour and ate at fine restaurants, but in between, we took in parades and bourbon st revelry. The food was awesome, we heard some great music, and we tried all the usual suspects - hurricanes, hand grenades and 'huge a$$' beers on Bourbon. OMG some of the floats were so awesome.
Dinners were at Antoinees (the original home of Oysters Rockerfella) and Emeril. Hands down dinner at Emerils was the best food I have ever eaten!! We may plan another trip somewhere around one of his restaurants!!
We had lunch at Mothers and beignets at Cafe du Monde
The weather was bad - cold (most of the time) and raining all day Saturday. The sun did peek put on Sunday.
Obviously we were there for V-day, and my DH gave me the most thoughtful gift - it is a heart locket, with a picture of my dad in it. He really did good this year.
We had a great time - relaxing (ish) because we were trying to cram so much in, but over all a great trip.
How was the cemetary tours? I always wanted to go since I saw that movie with Ashley Judd.
Looks like you had a great time!

It depends on what you are looking for in the tour - I was more intetested in the architecture of the cemetery than the voodoo history ... so I could have skipped the comentary

Re: N'Awlins review
Emerils restaurant had the best food I ever ate - except for the dessert - but thats because we ordered Creme Brulee. We wanted to compare it to our own, which we were taught in the French cooking school we went to in Paris. It was just as good as ours, or ours was just as good as theires (LOL) Thats not to say it wasn't good though
I can't wait to go to another Emerils

DH & I went to New Orleans right after the wedding and we were told that we must go the Cafe du Monde for Cafe Au Lait and beignets and I figured OK, it must be a tourist thing, what the heck, we'll try it. We ended up going every morning, the coffee was the most delicious I ever had and those beignets...mmmmmmm!
We loved the whole trip, it's an awesome city. I'm glad you had a terrific time.

I loved New Orleans when I was there!!! I just didn't love the schmuck I was with when I was there so I didn't get to do the tour of the Garden District or the cemetary tour (sounds so cool!) But I do remember those hurricanes!!
Glad to hear you had a nice trip!

That's like a rite of passage there
Helen, I am glad you had a great time! Your pictures are fantastic and I am totally jealous that you went to the dog parade. I missed it the last two years.

OMG I wondered where Naked Cowboy goes in the winter to escape NYC's cold!
My sister lived outside of NO and we'd often go see her - what a fun crazy place!!!
ETA - I never got drunk from those hurricanes - just sick from all the cheap liquor those street vendors use!!!

FUN! So, the Emeril's restaurant is worth it? Did you have to make reservations?
