1- reflect on your life.. make sure that you are ready mentally for the CHALLENGE of marriage
2- Dont worship eachother,, make it a level of commitment
3- living together first makes a little extra stability, though not gaurnteed
4- sit down with your FH and talk it marriage out- no a$$ kissing! real talk about being 1 on 1 and then someday a family, what are your expectations and goals

good segment!
i think the most important thing for married pp, especially younger couples--is learning about finances, credit scores, and interest rates. a lot of times younger ppl aren't quite taught or understand the vast importance that little 3 digit credit score is, or learn how to use credit cards properly and budgeting. that should be high on the list of things that couples should talk about when they are considering marriage--and learning about it together!

Hmm!!! My FH and are are starting to get into that now. He has always just given $ to his parents and they paid the bills out for him
So now I am working on figuring out what he owes and can we get it paid off and finsihed!

Same here...... we're not getting married in Church, so no pre-cana.
Honestly though, I think we have both known for a while what we want.... etc.
I also think that a big part of the reason that we have discussed a lot of this stuff is because FH was in a bad marriage before, and he was scared to jump in again.

I think under 20 to 25...
they mentioned 22 twice- I think it has to do about being mentally mature also

you know what's funny---that is sooooo common with guys! i swear when they are young they hand money to mom & dad and say 'handle this!'
i met my DH when i was 22 and he was 25--his spending habits were um.....immature for lack of a better word. it was like pulling teeth to figure out his bills and stuff when we started getting serious--and he had NEVER once checked his credit score in his life, nor did he seem to care about it!
5 1/2 yrs. later, even though i handle the bills, he does sit down with me and go thru it together....and he's even learned how to use my Quicken program to enter transaction (THAT is a miracle in an of itself.) p.s.--quicken of microsoft money are GREAT tools to create a budget!

It's so hard to talk about money with FH. It's such and important issue. You need to discuss your goals and set realistic expectations.

My FH is pretty good financially so i'm glad about that...now me on the other hand... I'm sometimes an impulse shopper, but my credit is pretty good i think...I haven't made any late payments..
