For those of you who used or are using one.. did you find that they were totally essential or did they get in the way/good place to cut to save money?

Re: Necessity of DOC
It was one of the very few 'extravagant' luxuries I let myself have on our wedding day, and it was the best decision I ever made to have a DOC. It kept me relaxed and made our wedding day, for me, the best day of my life.
Here is what I wrote a few weeks ago on BHB when someone asked about the DOC experience (rather than type it all from scratch again, since I did answer pretty long about it):
I used Ryan from Above & Beyond Events (she's a vendor on here) -- a friend's sister recommended her, and her rate was competitive with all the quotes I got from others. I did a search and all I saw were raves, and she was WONDERFUL on the phone, so I contacted her, met with her, and booked her, 1, 2, 3.
Ryan made my wedding day possible! Literally! We forgot the marriage license in the hotel and she went back and got it, lickity-split! It was little and big things like that where she was there to step in and make things completely smooth and perfect!
I had this grand idea about a bubble introduction entrance, and she orchestrated it PERFECTLY, and I was so pleased!
Since we were getting married at the RH, we didn't have a 'rehearsal' in church or anything, so she also came to the rehearsal we did at the RD and helped make everyone (especially my mom and MIL) at ease! She was GREAT with my SIL's children (3 1/2 & 1 1/2) who were in the BP as well! She made sure I kept hydrated all day, helped keep things organized, helped me get dressed -- when the DJ asked my DH for the balance in the middle of the reception, Ryan had already taken care of it even before DH told me about it!
I was a really easy-going bride who wanted to make sure my guests had such a good time at our wedding, to the point that I was stressing about their fun. Ryan made it so I had the time of my life at our wedding without having to worry! She was worth every penny, which in the grant scheme of things really wasn't that much. I'd be happy to tell you how much if you want to FM me. But if you're considering a DOC, I'd talk to Ryan first and see if you hit it off and if she's available -- she was wonderful and really knows what she's doing!

Re: Necessity of DOC
I am using Gina from Bleu Diamoind Events.
I actually went to speak with her about something else she does and ended up speaking to her abut what a DOC is and what they do and booked her on the spot! shes amazing and the girls that have used her already say the same.
I would go talk to a few and see who you click with and see if after you hear what they have to say you want one!

Re: Necessity of DOC
I had 305 wedding guests and no DOC. My mom and I were super organized and so handled it all ourselves. It really depends on you.

I'm not using one, but it's mainly because I'm a control freak and don't like to give up power

Re: Necessity of DOC
I am using one because after 15 months of planning this wedding I want to be able to actually enjoy it instead of stressing over every little thing.
Also it ensures that my Mom and MOH will get to enjoy the wedding as well...since it would fall to them to take care of the crap I didn't want to

I didn't even know there was such a thing as a 'half day' and I got married at 11:30 am! Ryan came at 6 am and was with me until the car service picked us up at 5:30 pm. It was great having her at the end so she and my mom and step-father could deal with getting our stuff home so DH and I could just enjoy leaving on our wedding-day high.
She was great too because I was texting her around 11 pm asking where my 'regular' earrings are and where I put my hotel room key the next morning... oops
Just to put how amazing she was in context, my mom was prepping for a kidney transplant (she was still on dialysis at the time of our wedding) so she couldn't help with some of the things I imagine that moms usually help with. Ryan's being there also let my MOM enjoy her day without feeling like she was neglecting her responsibilities as MOB. I'm so happy she had fun -- there are a thousand pics of her and my step-father dancing up a storm! (For a dialysis patient, that's incredible!)
Good luck with your meetings! I'm sure you'll be happy about it!

Re: Necessity of DOC
My DOC Chrissi from Fairytale events was a total life saver she went above and beyond for me the entire night!!! From helping me with my dress, to asking me if i needed anything, keeping me updating on some booboos that occurred had occurred with the RH, and being on top of my RH so that they wouldnt forget not to pack something for me. I say a DOC is a total must have!!

Re: Necessity of DOC
My DOC is Lisa from Elite affairs. She vwas also my sister's DOC last month.
She helps with any planning you need before the day of the event. She also confirms with vendors like a week or so before the event to make sure everything is in place. She came to my sister's rehearsal coodinated the rehearsal. She also is available for any phone calls which trust alot came up. My sister couldn't find the right color sand for her cereomony and she picked it up for her.
The day of she called to make sure we were in the hair dresser and that everything was on time. She brought a emegency kit when we told her that my sister's daughter ran and jumped on my sister braking her toenail completely off. She was sewing everyone up for the girls that either ripped their dress of didn't have a clip on their dress. If we needed anything she seemed to have it. She even steamed the guys tuxes that got crushed up so that they wouldn't walk down the aisle with crushed up tuxes. She was everywhere. I swear. She def. did more work than the bridal attendants . The best thing about having a DOC is that you and your family don't have to worry about anything. You just show up and have fun and they take care of the details. Another thing I must mention is the the DOC's know your vision and if the hall doesn't do a good job of making your vision reality she steps in and rearranges it so it's perfect for you. She is also a wedding planner so she def does help if you need advice and tips along the way. She went with me to choose the BM dresses b/c all my girls were at work and I was leaving to go back home and wouldn't get to do it again...but you get two in noffice visitsand I live in FL so more than likely I won't see her til my rehearsal so it works outfor the time we spent to like 2 visits. I say check her out she is a vendor on here. She is awesome
