My parents were the same way with me...extremely generous with everything We got them amazing concert tickets and a marriot gift card to use when they want- basically a weekend away
plus, I bought my mom a bracelet (not lots of $$$) but it had meaning to it and also a mother angel ornament with a sweet card

In my opinion, I don't think you have to spend an enormous amount of money. Maybe tickets to a broadway show in the city and dinner. I think anything you give them, they will appreciate.

I would really do something amazing. Maybe send them on a vacation or cruise or something like that.

I'm getting my parents a camera and accessories to go with it. I'm also getting my mom the mother and bride precious moment and I'm getting my dad a personalized mickey mouse watch that's engraved 'I'll always be your little girl'. HTH.

That's what we did, Trish. I'm also Trish the dish.
We got them tickets to Stomp (off-broadway) and a gift certificate to Hearth restaurant. They raved about both.

Re: need a gift idea
Maybe start a fund for somewhere they've always wanted to go? We did that two years ago for my parents to go to Italy. You can present a book to their 'Dream Vacation' spot to them the night of the Rehearsal Dinner, along with their first statement printout from ING Direct or some other bank's account (with a high interest, like ING) with however much you want to deposit as their first gift. Then you can say that, as a thank you for your dream wedding, you'll contribute to that fund for all the rest of the holidays from now on to eventually send them on their dream vacation!
We already started my parents' Italy fund, but I think as a thank you for my parents paying for such a huge portion of our wedding, after the wedding (for Christmas) I want to put about $2,000 into my parents' Italy ING account to get them even closer to their Italy trip.

Re: need a gift idea
I think the weekend getaway and the broadway show and dinner are great ideas. I had thought about those but we actually ended up getting them a computer. The computer they have now is mine so since they need a new one (I'm taking mine ), we got them a Dell. We're getting FH's parents a digital camera and printer dock. FH also got the dad's an engraved pocket watch and we're getting the mom's a nice pair of earrings.
