A friend of mine''s 1 year anniversary is in Aug. She is looking for a great spot to stay the night or a few days on LI. The problem is that her brother in law is having his engagement party the same weekend as her anniversary. The party is in Wading River (at East Wind) and she will be leaving from the party to where ever she decides to go. She doesn''t want to go too far since the party might not get out until midnight. I''ve suggested Danford''s, Gurney''s, and some bed and breakfast in Eastport, but I don''t remember teh name.
She wants something romantic, possible spa accommodations, and good food.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Gurney's is nice but I have never been inside. Montauk also has a castle reconstructed into a hotel and they have their own grounds. There is the lighthouse and the beach as the back drop which is real romantic during sunset and at sunrise. Horse back riding, hiking in different areas and just the beach is beautiful. I have only gone in the winter and spring when it was empty and not one other soul there except the locals but we enjoyed every minute of peace we had. Plus on our second visit we brought along our son-the dog! I would also say the Poconos but that is out of the way if they have to drive after midnight. Also keep in mind that many of the motels in Montauk are family owned and you have to let them know that you will be arriving late. There is this place we stayed at which is right across the street from the beach and had a path leading right to it. I can give you details if you like.

I have to recommend the place we are going after our wedding (we are taking the honeymoon 1 month later)

FHs aunt and uncle went there and the place had to tell them to be quiet (they are partiers) so they should keep that in mind, but if you want romance...this is the place...

East Hampton Point has beautiful cottages. THe one I saw was a duplex with a kitchen and living room area downstairs and a bedroom upstairs - with a jacuzzi tub in the room. It was gorgeous, bright, sunny, simply decorated...

i don't know about the timing but couldn't she hop on the pt jeff ferry and go over to connecticut for a b&b ??

P.S., There's also a great place where Atlantica is. I don't know the name of the place exactly, but we looked into having our wedding at Atlantica and they have a hotel and spa there right on the beach. Plus, the food is fantastic.
