NEED A GREAT PAINT COLOR TO GO WITH A TAN RUG

We re-did out porch and made it enclosed with a new wood door, new anderson window and new 8'x4' window on the other wall. I am carpeting it with a tan rug (front door, will hide the dirt from outside) and am STUMPED on a wall color. In the room is the other side of our chimney which is covered in red, green and blue flagstone. HELP!!

Do you have any furniture in this room? What color is it? Pretty much any color can go with a tan rug...what else is in the room?

Sage may work... What other colors are in the room?

A nice green or red color would look nice. With it being tan, you can get away with a lot of different colors. Best of luck! Sounds beautiful

As of right now the room is empty we are putting a built-in bookshelf and Emmas toys out there. Its going to be her playroom

Kelly would cranberry make a 8x10 room look too small?

If it's going to be a playroom...why not use some bright colors. My cousins just did their play room (tan carpet) with one color for each wall...yellow, blue, green, peach (on the darker side). It came out great...looks like a big box of crayons....Good luck!

I am doing my basement tan and a color in the red family...brick red or cranberry or something...

Cranberry might make a small room look closed in. We actually decided to do one wall (its a dividing wall that we place our entertainment center against) then we are painting the rest of the room a cream and using alot of cranberry accents such as pillows, window treatments and art work.

But if the room has lots of windows and you do light carpeting and trim, I think it would look fine with all cranberry! I love color and my theory is if you dont like it get some primer and paint over it!!!

I VOTE FOR THE CRANBERRY OR BURGUNDY, BUT IF YOU DONT LIKE THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS GO WITH A PEACH.

I think the cranberry would look awsome. I don't think it will look closed in with that big window.

Or course, I love the idea of a cranberry b/c i think that will look great. I dont really agree with the ideas that dark colors make rooms look closed in...b/c i feel they are the same size no matter what they look like so why not make them look their best even if it looks a tad smaller.

But anyway - i digress.

If its a playroom, what about doing something more whimsical like polkadots or stripes? You could use the same tan color as the rug but do a few different shades and finishes of it for the stripes or dots.

I would do a cranberry or a brick red. You can break it up with some wood trim, or paint the ceiling white. I wouldnt paint the cieling cranberry, then you will feel closed in. I also agree with a medium sage. That would also look nice. You can also do a darker beige color. Maybe something the color of mocha.....

Or how about this, Use Wayne's Coating on the bottom of the wall, and then paint the top part of the wall Cranberry, Brick red, or Sage. This way the wall will not be as dark as before. You can stain the wayne's coating the color of the floor or you can paint it a lighter color, what ever you feel is good for the room.

I think that would look great. I have seen it done many times on trading spaces....If you want to get an idea of what it looks like. Goto TLC's website and click on Trading Spaces....You can get many ideas there.
