My Hoover upright went kablooey, so time for a new vacuum.

Are Orecks good? If not, what do you recommend? I have wood floors and a few area rugs...

I used to work in a catering hall and our banquet manager would swear by them, and we would use those things multiple times a day, and they would also get pretty abused, since we were only HS kids who really didnt pay much attention to how we treated a vacuum cleaner

I love to vacuum--call me crazy! I just bought an electrolux (the harmony vacuum it was $400) and I bought the Hoover deluxe at Costco for $259.00 for the carpets and I just love the way it works. I use the electrolux on my hardwood floors. I have only heard great things about electrolux. My grandmothers both had them!

My mother bought her Electrolux about 25 years ago, she still has it! With maybe 1 minor repair in that time and it still works great.

What about the Dyson Purple one. I hear it's pretty great. Then again, I have hardwood floors, so I dunno.

My mother vaccuums 3x a day (yes!) and got the Oreck. No vaccuum has lasted as long plus she loves knowing that it has the warranty for so long!

Ilove my Oreck just be sure though with the uprights the XL version with the light that the handle no longer has a metal strip on it- I was vacuuming and got shocked!!! it has black tape around the handle, they said I called them right away and exchanged like 3 of them all did it that in new york they were surprised out west where its sandy and dry those vacuums get very statichy but I guess my house is statichy, lol. but i use it with the tape on the handle ( 399) vacuum !!! and it works AWESOME ive had electrolux all my life my mom sold them and i have to say it doesnt compare. I have 5 cats and 2 dogs and NO HAIR anywhere Ive had it for 3 yrs NO Hair build up or smell and havent had to service it yet so besides getting shocked, lol its worth it!!
