Have you tried to trim them once a week? My cats used to drive me crazy with the claws but I trim them often and then they don't claw. I'm pretty sure that cats claw because they want to trim their nails and keep them shorter...the longer they are, the harder it is for them to walk on them. maybe give that a try for a few weeks...also, I found those cardboard scratching things work really well!! They really seem to like those.

I have two cats that have ruined everything I own (brand new couch, rug, etc). I tried using Softpaws and they worked pretty well. Its a plastic cover that you literally glue to your cats nails so they can't scratch anything. They don't feel anything at all so it doesn't hurt them. Apparently, they are supposed to get used to not scratching so eventually they will stop in general and you wont have to cover their nails anymore. It might be worth a shot.

Its a pain to put on the cat (if yours are as insane as mine are)... I will say however that one of my cats is so nuts he constantly chewed at them so I gave up putting them on him it wasnt worth it.. I am seriously considering getting him declawed... but it works for the other cat. I dunno, just a suggestion!

Here is the website.

Re: need a place in suffolk

i declawed my baby about a year and a half ago now, when she was 6 years old, and it was the hardest decision i ever made. the day we took her in, i broke down and cried so much, but in the end it was the best thing for all of us. when i lived alone, i let her scratch whatever she watned, but when we moved in with DH, he wouldn't stand for it. i tried clipping her nails, i tried the softpaws ( i still have the pink ones if you're interested) but she would have no part of it. she was at the vet for 3 nights, and was still a little woozy when she got home, but in no time she was back to her old self, and if anything, she's even more affectionate now. she still goes and tries to scratch things. i was always dead set against declawing cats, but for us it was the right decision. i'm sure i'd be singing a different tune if she did change, but she's the same old kasha.

i would recommend my vet, but we're in nassau, so i'm not sure if you want to travel that far. our vet did the laser surgery which is less painful and intrusive for the kitty. good luck!

i would try the soft paws things but i can hardly get them to saty in my arms long enough to cut their nails!! i really dont know i want to consider all other options but i have a feeling that i will be right back to square one!

the thing is my cats are a little older....they were 7 months when i got them and that was march-ish i think so maybe 13 months now....do you think that makes a diffrence??

my baby was 6 years old when we declawed her. that's def late, but she's fine. the younger they are, the better, but our vet said it's more risky after they turn 2.
