I need someone for a reception only... very few posed shots, mostly unobtrusive candids... elegant photojournalistic style... unconventional and artistic!!
also- we don't necessarily need an album. any suggestions?
thanks girls!

Re: need a REALLY *good* photographer...
We are using Twelfth Night. They might be just what you are looking for - you choose the amount of time you want them (from five hours and up), one or two photographers (traditional and digital OR photojournalist and digital OR both - each photographer carries their camera and a digital) and the price includes proofs and negatives but no albums. The photographers are starting out on their own but still work for other studios (I know because when I got my e-photo taken, two girls came in to pick up their proofs and I saw the boxes from the other studios - which are both high end). We really liked the photographers too - very personable and they do great work.

Re: need a REALLY *good* photographer...
Just wanted to clarify something - for Jennbaby in particular - you do get what you pay for, but sometimes you pay more than you should. I also checked out Patken and they were my second choice. If you book the Twelfth Night photographers through their other studios, you will pay more than you would for the same at Patken because, as I said, they work for high end studios. BUT - if you go directly to them, and don't pay for the overpriced albums (studios usually charge you many times what it costs them) you can get incredible photos for a reasonable price. Pay for just what you want and nothing more. One example was a large photo to hang on the wall, put onto canvas - one studio I visited wanted $425!!! I can get it for $60 - $75. Big difference to me.
You've done all the research so check out whoever you like and go with your instincts - it's the best way to choose who's right for you.

Re: need a REALLY *good* photographer...
we are using renaissance and getting a regular photographer and photojournalist. we saw a friends album about a year ago and was blown away about how great the pictures are. very professional family owned and are great with price. they are located in smithtown. they are called renaissance studio on main street in smithtown. they are worth checking out.
If you want good i cant help you BUT PATKEN IS GREAT and if you really want to go on rep get Doug, (the nicest guy!!!!) or if you cant splurge extra $$$ for the owner, you can get Steve, Nick or Vinny...OR just stop in and flip through their albums... they really do work with you!!!
Good luck

First post here (usually on theknot) but I must speak up about my photographer. We searched A LOT for photographers before we settled on Silverfox in Mineola. Their work is simply breathtaking (both photo and video). I had a friend who recently used them...all I can say is WOW!. She got over 1000 proofs! They also allow you to choose what you want-no preset packages or anything. They are very cool and laid back-ask for John-he's the owner and he's awesome. Do yourself a favor and check them out. Best of luck to you!

We booked North Island Photography. They are a vendor on here and Michael Rosengard, the primary photographer, is wonderful and talented. He isn't just a wedding photographer. He does landscapes and family portraits. He's very enthusiastic about photography. Take a look

I second Silverfox. There work is fantastic and I love the fact that there are no packages. I only pay for what you want. John is soo nice and they were the only place we went to. Many of our friends are using them also.

I second Twelfth Night. In the end I'm not going to book them because Duet threw in a lot more for the money, but if you only want someone for the reception, I think they would be great. Dominic is really nice. They'll do the albums also, they're just not included in the package.
