Need a seamstress

Need a seamstress

I'm picking up my gown this week and there's no way in hell I am getting my alterations there. (I have had nothing but problems with my salon, and it's all the way in Brooklyn, no less.)

Is there anyone that you can recommend that will

1. Not be over $200

2. Will be open past 5 during the week or open weekends (Rosie's in Centereach is only open till 5 during the week and weekends are starting to look very hairy already!)

3. Will not be so overloaded that I have to worry about things. (This is my concern with Phyllis, so many people using her, that I worry she will be overloaded)

I'm willing to travel as far west as Queens and as far east as Coram.

Thanks in advance!!

Karin Yngvesdotter. I don't remember how much she charges (and the prices may have changed) but she works out of her house in Astoria. You can do a search, I'm not the only bride who has used her, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE her. I went on Saturday afternoons to her house. She's a brilliant woman.

Her email address is [email protected]

Re: Need a seamstress

WedHed used someone from Kleinfeld's for $200. Check her review.

ETA: From her review:

Alterations – Maria Molinari
Maria is a seamstress for Kleinfelds who does freelance work. I got her name and number from someone on this site who bought her dress from Kleinfelds and had Maria alter the dress for her on the side.
Maria lives right down the block from the original Kleinfelds in Brooklyn so it was a bit of a trek for me to see her but I only had to go twice – one fitting and she was done! She is a sweet old Italian woman who knows what she’s doing.
And, she only charged me $200 for my alterations and bustle.
FM me if you want her number.

Karen Y...is no longer doing alterations. She now has her own line of custom made gowns...

I hear Phyllis at GownFind is affordable.

Re: Need a seamstress

Mario Couture in New Hyde Park. He has a shop by the railroad that doesn't look like much, but he and his girls do a great job!

Last summer he saved my life. I was in my friend's wedding and the night before I tried on bm dress only to find that the zipper was broken. I called the place (which shall remain nameless) to ask for their help at 4:00pm. The owner said she was closed, she couldn't help me that night, and I was lucky she answered the phone. I drove to Mario crying and he put a new zipper in the dress in about a half hour. While I waited women from all over were coming in picking up and dropping off things to be altered! He is a saint!
