I checked it out and was not thrilled. The railing outside the place was falling out and I thought it had a bad odor when I went in. The bar is on the dancefloor...I thought the set-up was bizarre. Also it had an upstairs which was not the best for the older folks. And for what this place charges you can get a lot better!

Re: Need a thread: The Metropolitan in Glen Cove
I am going to slightly disagree, however, I've booked the Club Room which is on a different level. On their website, the CH room is the pic in gallery 2. I know someone who booked there and their wedding was great. FM if you want any info, but my rooms are not what you see on their website except for in gallery 2. I have pics I can e-mail you, too.

I'm having my reception in the downstairs Club room, too. I liked it because it had a different feel and decor than all the other places I visited. It's a little art-deco, sleek style versus a flowery traditional style place. I have heard great things about the food - my sister went to the tasting with a friend, and they said it was amazing. I think the place is great for a smaller, more intimate wedding. The price is kind of high, but they require less of a minimum headcount.

Hi I don't post often but am an addicted 'lurker' . I had my wedding there 2 years ago and I Loved it!! I Still get raves from my family and friends about the food (yes even 2 years later!). I do not go in for glitzy places with big chandeliers etc..... so it was perfect for me I felt it was understated and elegant. I liked the fact that the stage is behind the bar so no one got a big speaker in their ear (Huge pet peeve of mine). Of course they don't have grounds to take pictures on so that could be a problem for you but I went down to Morgan Park (about 5 mins away). Let me know if I can help
p.s there was no smell when I was there

I'm biased. I had my wedding there. I got SO many compliments on the place, and the food. The food was delicious. I had not one problem through the whole process. Eileen was a doll to work with.
Same as Mrs2b I was going for understated elegance, and I didn't want a place that felt like a wedding factory. If I could do it all over again, I would not change the place. The service was immpeccable all night, and there isn't much of a need to go to the bar, b/c the wait staff got drinks for the guests all night. Although a lot of my friends who aren't big dancers liked being at the bar, and part of the action on the dance floor without actually dancing!
FM me if you want more info.

Re: Need a thread: The Metropolitan in Glen Cove
The 3 posts below mine and above this post say it best!!! Its not glitzy or showy and the club room has a very different and intimate feel - reminds me of a cigar bar. Its hard to find a reception site for a small reception without feeling you got the 'bad' room or are unimportant. I ony have to guarantee 50 guests and I saw my room set for 80 and they didn't look like they would be lost in a room too big or stuffed in a room too small . . . kinda like the Three Bears . . . it is just right!

I too am a 'lurker' althougth not an avid 'poster'.
Maybe I am biased but my sister just got married there on August 14th of this year and everything was great at the Metropolitan. Perhaps a bit 'weathered' for some tastes..but the service was unbelievable and the food was amazing..if you like chocolate cakes...the Metropolitan had a rocking chocolate wedding cake. Pam at the Metropolitan was so helpful and I didn't mind the band behind the bar or the bar being on the dance floor...
JMO of course.
