Need advice

Need advice

I am planning my sisters bridal shower....(I am the MOH). My mother said she would pay up to a certain amount for everything, and if she goes over I can contribute the difference.
In addition to that I plan on getting a gift. How much money does a MOH/Sister spend on a shower gift?

Also.... what kind of wedding gift? 1000 for me and my FH enough?

Im so lost!! I dont want to low ball... and I also dont want to go overboard and have her feel like she has to do the same for me!!

TIA

Re: Need advice

i think $1,000 is PLENTY, especially because youre planning a wedding of your own. For a sister, however, the choice of the gift should be something not just 'plucked' off the registry... because she's your sister, you might have more liberty to yes, get something from the registry, but add to it with things that will accompany the item, in case she didnt put them on the registry... i know some people will disagree with me on that, because a registry is supposed to be made up of things that you definitely want, but i know that jordan and i have forgotten to put things on our registry that we will be like 'OH SHlT, we didnt even THINK of that!'... just a thought. :)

p.s. congratulations on being MOH!

Re: Need advice

I planned (but didn't pay for) my sister's shower last year. The BP spent about $250 each on the gifts we all got her...I spent probably about $400-500 including lots of little touches. For her wedding gift I gave her $1000 from FH and I. I think this is a good amount because it's generous but not crazy. I dont think it's going overboard... but that's just me. I also know my sister can afford at least what I've spent on her, if not more. Hope this helps! FM me if you need shower planning help! I loved planning her shower!

I think $1000 is PLENTY also... what about her other BM...you should all go in a gift for her for the shower.

Thanks ladies. I think that is what I will do. I was planning on contributing to the shower...and doing about 350ish for gifts.
As for the wedding i am sticking with 1k. I need to budget that into my plans.

Where did you hold your sisters shower? I have no idea what to do for center pieces, or favors. Im lost! i feel like when it comes to the wedding i have everything so down pat...and the shower is a blur. My only other friend who has been married so far, had a terrible shower...and I got NO ideas.

We had it at the Milleridge Carriage House and they supplied small arrangements for the middle of the table. I was in my friend's bp two years ago and bought a ton of cheap bouquets from a fruit and vegetable stand (do you guys have those in LI or is that a city thing?) and some cheap low vases and put centerpieces together myself.

When is the shower? Depending on the season you could do different things. Does your sister like to cook? If so, I've heard of doing kitchen utensil centerpieces... a really pretty basket with all different cooking utensils (spatulas, potato mashers, garlic presses etc) stuck into the basket with a pretty ribbon on each. Then at the end of the shower the guests each take one based on need...oh, I don't have a spider strainer... and that's the favor. I love that idea! Hope my MOHs and mom do that for me!
