Ok this is the situation. Fh and I are going to Vegas to visit his parents for Thanksgiving. Lately FH has been trying to get his parents involved in the wedding planning and after months of thinking they were disinterested we just realized they have no clue what planning a wedding entails. His parents eloped and his sister has gotten married 3x at the justice of the peace. His mom actually asked him the other day how many family members on his side are being invited because at the last family wedding his side was only allowed 1 table of 10 people (long story).
So when we go I am bringing my wedding binder to show them everything and going to ask her to come to NY in Jan to go dress shopping with me.
Anyway my question after the above was FH and I would like FIL's to throw us an engagement party. Is this wrong to ask of them?

to flat out ask,i think may be to forward. Instead, express interest in it and as FH to ask him parents if they could help out with the party. The worse they can say is no. But I wouldn't flat out ask them to throw a party. They may take it the wrong way...

ITA, asking someone to throw you a party might not go over well

I agree also, it might not go over too well....i think if you show interest in wanting one they might suggest throwing it for you

Re: Need Advice
I personally wouldn't ask them flat out. I would express interest in having one though.

Re: Need Advice
i have to agree with the other girls. flat out asking them to throw you a party can sound a little rude. however, discussing the idea of having an e-party may go over better. you should be prepared with some details as we have seen in the past locations plans a big part into how much wedding related things cost & how they are done.

I think you can mention it but be prepared they may say no. If they have no clue about a wedding, how will they know what to do for an e-party?

Re: Need Advice
Yes, Sorry if thats harsh but I don't think you can ask someone to throw you a party.
I would suggest that you were thinking of having one and see if they offer. However, if they don't know what a NY wedding is like. I wouldn't plan on them doing it either. My FI was shocked we had one. No one on his side (from Jersey) ever had one. It was like a weird thing to them
