Need advice...

So one of FH's groomsmen has this girlfriend. The short version of the story is this:

We used to work together in a restaurant. Not closely, she was a hostess, I was a bartender. But we did sort of travel in the same circle. Plus, in Bayside, where I live, we know all the same people, and go to all the same bars.

So about 4 years ago, FH and I broke up for about 6 months. Something happened (not really important what), and people heard some rumors. Well, this girl went around telling basically anyone who would listen that I wasn't worthy of FH, and that he is going to be so much happier when he finds someone better than me, and a whole bunch of much more catty, much more horrible and insulting stuff.

I have basically put her out of my mind, I don't associate with her at all anymore. But she's been dating FH's friend who is one of his groomsmen for about the same 4 years since this happened.

Well....I agreed to invite her as his date to the engagement party, but this was before FH asked his friend to be in the bridal party. It was a source of contention between us, me saying that if he invites the friend to be in the bridal party, anything that the friend participates in, he will be invited alone (rehearsal dinner, for example). This is why FH hadn't asked him to be a groomsman until recently.

The friend and the girl broke up, and we thought it was for good. So FH asked him to be a groomsman. The friend accepted, and was broken up with the girl until sometime this week. FH just told me that they got back together.

I am really unhappy. This girl said such horrible things about me and basically, whether it was intentionally or not, she tried to keep us apart.

Basically, my question is, am I right to not want to have her be a part of anything I do as a gesture of gratitude to my bridal party? She will be invited to the wedding if they are still together, but I want her to have no part in anything else. I feel as if she doesn't deserve to be a part of my happiness because she did everything she could to kick me while I was down. I try not to be a spiteful person, but she is someone I will just never forgive or forget what she did and how she acted, no matter what the reason or explanation. I'm not even sure she knows how much I loathe her. To be honest, I don't care either.

Any thoughts on the situation would be wonderful and helpful!!

Sorry this is so long and I'm also sorry that I sound like such a horrible person, I'm really not that bad!!

You are 100% in the RIGHT! If this was me, there would be absolutely no way I would include her. These are once in a lifetime moments and the LAST thing you want is some horrible person in the corner that is going to piss you off or make you feel uncomfortable. I think that she is just a girlfriend to someone in the bridal party and that doesn't mean it is mandatory to include her in other wedding related events. Inviting her to the wedding is more than enough!

You are 100% right. Why would you want someone around who said such awful things about you.

The worst part is, I don't know if she doesn't remember what she did, or she's done this so often, but she acts like she wants to be my friend!! And I have made it as clear as I can, without actually saying something that would bring me down to her level to her, that I want nothing to do with her. UGH!

I dont think you are wrong at all! I most definitely wouldn't want her involved in any bridal party activities (or any significant others for that matter) but of course theyd be invited to the wedding. I give you credit for even inviting her to the wedding I dont think I could even do that. Your FH friend is gonna be busy with pics and other things the day of he doesnt need her there. Its your wedding your FH should understand if you dont want her there. Good luck!!

1st off, I'm a groom. :) 2nd, your completely right in feeling that way. You planned your wedding well and only included that groomsmen when you thought the time was right (when he dumped that h@#). Circumstances obviously didn't go your way.

I would get your FH to talk to his groomsman and get him to understand the situation. Tell him he's invited, and his GF by proxy. Obviously that guy will then tell his GF, and she'll probably react with her usual catty attitude or whatever, who knows. Just make sure they understand you don't Hate her, but that you felt hurt by what she did in the past. She doesn't have to be at rehearsal dinner and all the other side events. On the wedding day I'm sure she'll be hanging with other locals you invite anyways, so you don't have to interact with her much... I just saw you have a year and a half left. Just leave the situation alone for now. Maybe she'll fall out if the picture by then. Hopefully an opportunity presents itself to talk it out by then (bump hips at the bar sometime). Don't stress this sitch until 4-6 months prior.

Your marrying this man now. On your Magnificent Wedding day everyone around you will see how much you deserve each other and will bow in awe. I'm sure your a humble individual, but on June 1st 2014, ignore the peasants and enjoy the celebration your royal highness.

While I don't blame you at ALL for not wanting anything to do with this girl, I think you need to be the bigger person and act like it doesn't bother you. That whole fiasco happened several years ago, so you don't want to look like you hold a grudge. Also, in the end and in spite of all the smack she talked, you and FH are getting MARRIED. Girl, you win no matter what.

I would include her if other people are invited to things with +1's, but I would politely ignore her and don't speak to her unless she approaches you. Do NOT let her get under your skin!

Personally I feel like you don't need to include her in certain things,Blake inviting her to your shower-however in respect for your friend I feel like she should be invited as a guest to him whenever anyone else is invited with a guest like the rehearsal dinner. I can totally see where you are coming from but I think it's better to suck it up. Hopefully they will breakup again and all this worrying will be for nothing :) good luck

I wouldn't want someone like that around me either. I don't blame you.

The fact that you invited her to the e-party was nice enough (at least in my opinion)... and he wasn't even in the bridal party yet.

IF they are together when it comes time for your wedding... then if you invite the other GM and BM with a +1... she should also be included. She may not even come. And if she does come... it's going to be TWO days before your wedding and you probably won't even notice that she's there.

She DOES NOT need to be at any other events pertaining to the wedding where the GM won't be. Like your shower for instance.

Does the GM (her bf) know what happened and how you feel about her?

Also... she may be totally clueless and either doesn't remember what happened... OR she doesn't think it was a big deal. I think if its going to really eat you up inside... punch her. Just kidding.

This is sort of how I feel about my FBIL's girlfriend. She's just ridiculous and I can't stand her. Is it bad that I'm hoping they break up before the wedding???

EVERYONE at your wedding should be there to support your new union and vows... not just for the party. I think it's reasonable that you don't want her there... Maybe ask FH to speak to his friend?

The boyfriend knows how I feel, I've never his my happiness that they broke up and why from him. I don't think he'll tell her, for some odd reason I think she intimidates him. I told FH that I'd be more than willing to talk to his GM and explain how I feel now to him.

I know it's a long way away and I don't have to worry just yet bc they may not even make it. It's nice to know that you girls (and guy!) don't think I'm completely unwarranted in my feelings.

I'm sure they'll break up or this anxiety will blow over (or I'll punch her, katielynn lol), but for now it was just helpful to vent a little.

I second the punching motion! Haha

I agree that sh shouldn't be invited if they aren't supporting your new marriage

this is your day and you should tell FH to speak to his groomsman that the GF is a no show and just take the fall for it. have FH tell his friend its your call and its your day and if his friend wants to confront an unhappy bride he can! and you could also explain to FH's friend your feelings and how you don't think it's appropriate for her to come. if he backs out of being a groomsman than he isn't a very good friend to begin with.

I was in a similar situation but it was FH's EX GIRLFRIEND! Granted, they dated 10 years ago, but when we got together she was extremely spiteful. She's a lonely girl, and her and FH were very close before we started dating. She added me on facebook two days after I met him, and then started posting pictures of them together.
WELL, I saw her name on the list for our e-party and made it very clear she isn't coming. She's absolutely toxic and I don't want her at the e-party. I know he is still considering inviting her to the wedding, but I don't want her jealousy there on our day.
You are 100% right with how you feel!

Ummmm I have it all figured out...you let me know where she'll be and I'll Nancy Kerrigan her right before your wedding so she'll be laid up for it!?

Ok Ok I joke...I do think that if you're still together you'll just have to suck it up...but when you're doing seating for the RH make sure you put her all the way at the edge of the table in the corner...swipe her silverware...the little things that will annoy her!
