Need advice, dealing with family

Re: Need advice, dealing with family

First of all, congrats on finding a house! And second of all, I'm sorry you are in this situation. I have to be honest, hon, I wouldn't tell her at all until you are done going to contract. If you are really THAT worried about her to begin with, this may be something you and your future husband have to do on your own. But then again, that may be hard. I don't know. I wish I had better advice

I'm sorry you are facing this dilemma and completely understand how overbearing parents can be but one question...why not be confident in your decision? If you both agree its a nice house (by your standards) and in a town you like, why be so concerned?

Personally, I think your parents should respect your decision as an adult and if they can't, well too bad for them. In a nutshell, if I was in your position, I would feel proud about all the details of the new home.

Good luck

does the fact that your mother won't like it bother you? if so, why? is it because some part of you feels the same way? or is it because you want her to be happy for you instead of critical?

congrats on the !

its not that I care about their opinion, we are buying the house no matter what. But I am still living in the house before the wedding, which will mean a tense house, and they havent transfered the car over to me yet either

Emily,

I remember not too long ago she was giving you trouble about the wedding dress you chose....

As for how to deal with her, I agree with Julz that you should tell her you found a house once you are in contract for it, but don't tell her the address. Tell her you don't want to jinx it, or that you want to do this on your own...make it a responsibility thing. That way she can't make you feel bad about it, and she can't ruin it for you. I wouldn't leave her out of it completely......just give her only the details you want her to have! My parents didn't see our co-op until we were just about at closing! Not for the same reasons as you, we were just lazy.....

If you and Mike like the house - you should get the house. You are both intelligent mature enough to make this decision on your own....and she seems like she's a little out of touch with the price of housing these days!! It is hard to find something affordable, so if you do, and you like it, snatch it up!!!

Good luck
