need advice- extremely long

There is so much drama between fh's mom and his dad's side of the family. They are divorced and his dad is getting remarried 6 weeks before us. (they decided to do this one week after we picked our date )

Anyway- I will try to condense this and have it make sense.

FH's father had a major breakdown when FH was about 13 years old. He was in and out of hospitals and an alcoholic and was just a mess. FHs mother sent his father up to massachussets where his parents and siblings were to see if they could help and get him better- away from the kids (they were all young and seeing their father in a hospital or an alcoholic rage wasn't doing them any good).
FHs aunts and grandparents blamed FHs mother and her kids for his father having a breakdown. the grandparents completely cut them off- never acknowleged a birthday or anything. his dads sister always has something to say about FH's mother.

Now 13 years later, FFIL is remarrying, and is perfectly normal, happy, sober- everything. His fiance doesn't allow FFIL to really see FMIL unless necessary. Now FMIL and I are very close, and she is the most down to earth- fair, likable person you could ever imagine. She wasn't invited to the wedding. She was mad because they planned their wedding so close to ours, and instead of asking one of his own 3 sons to be the best man, he asked his fiances son. And they asked me to be in the wedding. After some argument- FFIL asked FH to be in the wedding.

With all the drama that went on between FMIL and FFIL's parents and siblings, FFIL's family wasn't invited to our wedding, except for one aunt and cousin with hubby because they are still amicable with FMIL and we were invited to their wedding.

So- FFIL comes to FMILs house last night saying how everyone in massachussetts is going to be so mad and disappointed and there will be permanent repercussions and so on. Now he knew how FMIL felt about it and knew we weren't inviting any of them and was fine with it. He said his mother would be so upset if she weren't invited- but where are all of FHs bday cards and phone calls from throughout the years?? FMIL is so upset and feels like FFIL never takes his 'old' familys side and is just pushing them to the side. I am afraid that at FFILs wedding- his family is going to have loads to say.

I would invite them to our wedding- but they aren't the type to just sit quietly and be enjoyable. (His aunt actually smacked someone across the face at another wedding they attended).

I just feel awful because FH doesn't know what to do and we can't even invite anyone else because our guest list is out of control!

advice please?

its hard to tell you what to do in a situation like this... but i think you already know what you want us to tell you, and i say to go with your gut and do what YOU want. you are the one that will have to live with your decision, whatever it is.

I think its a God sent that they are not invited or coming, it would be such a mess. You dont need that type of stress on your day. There isnt really much you can do, just be there for FH and FMIL. Hope all goes well with you, sorry you are going through this

Well--I wan't to invite them to keep the peace. But I don't want to invite them to keep the peace..

It's a lose-lose situation

you cant please everyone, thats a given.....

that said, if you think there will be trouble, then listen toyour gut and dont invite them, end of story.... but

if you think they are sincere and can be civil towards each other then consider it and give RH a list with photos of possible trouble makers and the ok to ask them to leave if anything goes down

i am not inviting trouble people in my family, we are not close and i am not risking my wedding for them
