I just started working at my firm in August, so I'm fairly certain they won't be too thrilled to hear I'm pregnant. I haven't told anyone at work yet, and was waiting until the 12 week mark (Feb. 1). Problem is, I just found out today that the company is switching healthcare providers this month, and the enrollment form for the new insurance company asks to identify any prior-existing conditions, including pregnancy. The office administrator is collecting the forms, and once that happens (next week) I'm afraid my secret won't be a secret anymore! Second, is it at all possible that the new insurance won't cover the pregnancy because it is a pre-existing condition??? Any advice is MUCH appreciated!

Re: Need advice - Insurance issue
Those forms are confidential so in theory the HR person should NOT be discussing your paperwork with ANYONE...it is against the law I am pretty sure. BUT I would NOT take a chance. IMO, tell your immediate boss before someone else does. That never looks good.
Your new insurance, by law, must cover ANY pre-existing condition, including pregnancy, as long as you have had insurance in the past 6 months cover it. There is a law to protect people with pre-existing conditions. So your pregnancy will be covered. BUT your doctor might not be in the new plan so that might be a bit of a problem for you to deal with, and your co-pays and benefit payments may also change.

Re: Need advice - Insurance issue
Thanks - I spoke to my plan administrator and made her assure me the information is confidential. I also looked up PA law and found that pregnancy is not, by law, considered a pre-existing condition for health insurance purposes. WHEW!!
