Need advice - Is a gift certificate an ok gift for best man?

One of our best men has a passion for painting. He has NO other hobbies. Doesn't smoke, doesn't drink...blah, blah. He's the LAST gift we have to get. Anyway, he gets his art supplies at Pearl's. I have no idea what he might need, so is a gift certificate ok? Frankly, I'm not thrilled about it since I feel it's kind of *impersonal*, but I'm through trying come up w/ a great gift!!! Thanks!! :)

Why don't you give him a gift certificate with something small that's personal. My brother's an artist too - if you'd like I could ask him what he thinks. I'm trying to think if there is one thing that an artist always needs - and can never have to many of? But with that said, I probably wouldn't give my brother a gift certificate - but I don't know - sorry, I couldn't help you out better.

My fiance was just in a wedding and got an American Express Gift check. He loved it. He has hobbies but this was perfect because he could get whatever he wanted. The Bride and Groom gave it to him in a nice wallet. Hope that helps.
