Lately I have been asked by numerous people where FH and I plan on going on our honeymoon. The truth is, we are not taking one right after the wedding...we are waiting for the following year. When we get married I will be right in the middle of grad school and I also have to go to school in the summers, so I don't know what my schedule is going to be. FH will just be about 6 months or so into a new job, who knows if he will even be able to get vacation time. Plus we really don't have the money. We are fine with this...how come everyone has a problem with it? Some people are suggesting to give us a trip as a wedding present. As wonderful as this is, we would rather have the money...but of course, I can't say that. We currently have no place to live and can barely afford this wedding...the last thing we need is a trip. My mom thinks I should just fib and tell people we are going to Bermuda or something...but to me that takes more effort than telling the truth. What do you girls think? Anyone else going through this?

Re: Need advice: no honeymoon...please
Hmm I would just explain that you are saving up for a house and decided to get a little more settled before a trip

I believe that as long as you are happy with your decision, then this is all that matters. people will always have something to say about your decisions. You have to do what is best for you. It's up to you how much info you want to give people.

Maybe you can take a long weekend, and just go somewhere to relax and enjoy being married.
If people ask, just tell them you're saving for a house/kids/dog/paying off the wedding/whatever and plan a 'honeymoon' for your first anniversary.

I agree. Just tell the truth you will be honeymooning in your apartment after the wedding and then taking a wedding trip at a later date. I hear lots of people doing that,in considertaion of costs, jobs, etc.
Some people will always have something to say

I have to agree here...Everyone has reasons to why they do what they do & when they do them...It is technically no one business what your reasons are...Even if you don't take your HM directly after your wedding, who cares...It is something to look forward to down the line!

A friend of mine did this - they went to the Poconos for an extended weekend.

one of my friends is kinda in the same situation but it is more about taking time off of work she just started working in a school as a counselor and they are going to take a mini-moon and then i think the following year during winter break they are going to take another longer trip.
I like the poconos idea. maybe you can stay in the hamptons or something like that too for the weekend.

I just don't want people getting creative and giving us a 'gift' because we would not be able to take it. I love everyone for being so thoughtful and wanting to give us the opportunity to go away, but it's just not possible in our situation. We would rather just go away when we both can get time off and can afford it ourselves...it's not a necessity. I hope I don't sound rude, I really hope I am not coming off that way. I just love everyone for their thoughfulness, but I know it's not practical.

We are also planning to take a Honeymoon 2 months after the wedding and people are questioning why! You know there are always going to be people that NEED to tell you how THEY feel about it. Just tell them the truth! You have so many other details to worry about - as long as you're okay that's ALL that matters!
