Ok so FH and I were going through the wedding list to narrow it down to who we were going to invite to the e-party. I wanted it to be just immediate family, bridal party, and closest friends not in the BP. What I meant by closest family was Parents, Brothers, Sisters, Nieces, Nephews, and Grandparents. I still have 3 Grandparents, he doesn't have any still around. He wants to add on Aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Problem is, if I add Aunts, Uncles, Cousins (and alot of my cousins have at least 2 kids each), that means that our eparty is up to 73 adults, and 18 kids. (91 people altogether). I wanted the whole list to be more like 50 or 60 people.
We cannot afford to spend more than $1500 on the whole thing. So we decided maybe to do a backyard party, but I'm afraid for this many people even catering in or going to the price club will come out more than that.
Should we: A) Just let him add his aunts, uncles, and cousins and do without mine since his whole list would be 23 people even with them and since I have grandparents.
B) None of us invite Aunts, Uncles and Cousins,
C) Both of us invite Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins and hope that maybe there will be enough fall out.
D) Let him invite all his aunts, uncles, and cousins, and just narrow mine down to the closest ones.

If you have a $1500 budget, even if you have 93 people, you'll have to stay within that budget and having it in your backyard gives you that ability. Different from when you're in a restaurant or a reception hall and paying a set price per person.

Re: Need advice on e-party list...
in my experience, i invited 175 ppl to my E-party (bc i inivited aunts uncles and cousins - big family plus we got carried away with friends) and only 125 showed so I think a lot of ppl will say no but then again you have to plan for the worst case scenario so if you can't afford it now you wont be able to afford it if then either.
That said, I did make my money back in gifts plus some. So that is something to consider too (unless you are registering somewhere) i purposely didn't register before my E-party.

I had a similar situation. His family is a lot smaller than mine, and he wanted his 2 uncles. I didn't want my (many) aunts and uncles to feel excluded, so we wound up inviting everyone. It grew to almost 100 people. But as mentioned above, the money that we received from our guests exceeded what was put into the party. We had registered, but no one asked us.

I would say no children allowed, you don't really need kids at an eparty and that would help bring down your number a bit. Some people might also not come if they can't find babysitters.

Yea for some reason ppl were pretty generous with the gifts for the E-party ,some gave what I would give for a wedding!

I think that if you are going to invite FH's aunts, uncles, etc then you will need to invite your aunts, uncles, etc as well. Like previously mentioned, indicating that the party is adults only would cut down the list!

Re: Need advice on e-party list...
Personally, I couldn't leave out any of my family. I would leave out some friends if I had to. But $1500 is definitely do-able in the backyard. I am having my e-party in my backyard. We are doing it cheap. We are having it very casual (jeans) and catering food. So we will have a nice dinner. Appetizers will be minimal (costco). And we will get a cake and everything. But we are not having a DJ. My parents house is wired with surround sound that will play all over the backyard and throughout the house. So my FH and I will just make a playlist on my ipod and play that. So we will save a lot of money by not having a DJ.

I voted for 'Let FH invite Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins, and I'll just invite the closest ones on my side' - but also, why dont you consider not inviting kids, maybe that will cut down on the amount of people?!? HTH
Also, IMO, from my experience at my e-party - only invite who you and FH want, do not invite people that only your parents want.

Re: Need advice on e-party list...
Thanks for your help ladies! I think I've decided to not invite kids. My mom agreed with you. Only the ones in the bridal party (nieces and nephews). That way i can still invite the Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins (just not the cousin's kids.)
The problem was 90% of my cousins are married with at least 2 kids each. lol. My mom's side is big. His cousins most of them are not married yet. I think thats what we will do that way no one is offended. Thanks again!

i would say no kids, and then figure about 20% won't show-especially if there's oot guests..
