Need advice on how to go about picking a band

Original post by DrBeLLaRoSe

ok girls i am going to try to pick a band soon, but i have no way to go about doing it.

i have a list of some bands that have been suggested on these boards but the list is so long i cannot imagine going to hear all of these bands. I dont think i would have time to go see them all, and i went to see one last weekend and it was a huge waste of time. How did u girls do it? Any suggestions?

We booked our band after hearing them at 2 different weddings. They offered a great variety of music and had the energy we were looking for.

We wre between the band we choose and Timepiece- both Franklin Wayne bands and that was a tough decision.... but I am soooo happy!

it has been kinda of hard for me because i need to have some italian music at the wedding and i want it to sound authentic, but some of the mc's in italian american bands are not my style (they talk too much).

The only band i have heard at a wedding was Code Bleu and me and my fiance loved them but they did not sing any italian songs at the wedding (they say they can though).

And on top of it all i also wanted somewhat of a violin/ piano/ harp etc feeling for the cocktail hour. Any suggestions on how to get all that?

Do i have to sacrifice the italian to get good american? do i have to sacrifice the cocktail hour music to get good contemporary music? i am so confused

We had Code Bleu, I loved them. My dad is big into italian music and they sang, I think it was a Bocelli song, but I don't remember, and my dad said he thought they put a CD on, he is so good.

I went to their showcase and they usually do a song from each type of music to show you their versatility.

FM if you have any questions.

I saw Code Bleu at a showcase and fell in love!! Unfortunately I think they are way out of our budget!! They were so incredibly nice to when speaking to them afterwards!

We are going to start looking for a band this summer so i'm really glad you posted this!! Our problem is we love alternative music and underground bands and the list of potential first dance songs we wanted are not mainstream songs so we may have to change our choices - i would love a band with trumpets too!!

I think its going to be fun going to see the bands and watching their dvds!!

Good luck with everything and keep us posted I'd love to know who you select!!

(edited for my poor spelling)

FI is in 2 bands, so I let him be in charge of that. Originally we wanted the NErds, but they wanted $10,000+ and they were cocky, so out they went.

We went to see Full House play at a bar, and FI knew one of the singers through his band, so that's who we went with. I like for the band to sound a lot like the original song, no 'making it their own' nonsense.

Grab the WeddingPages, I trust every vendor in there, I know the people who create it personally, and trust them very much. They only put top notch vendors in their mag.

Good Luck!

We narrowed it down to East Coast and NYC Swing.... Went with NYC Swing.

Also liked a few of the Franklin Wayne bands..

I know people who play in some of these bands and really you can't go wrong with any of em'... It just comes down to your personal preference and how you may relate with the people in the band and mgt.

Heard great things about Code Bleu as well but, didn't get to see them....

I wouldn't stress over this, again, all these names here are Great - Going to Showcases can be a fun night out - Get some drinks and enjoy...

I'm using Heart and Soul- a Franklin Wayne Band. They do a few songs in Italian, also they have someone playing the piano during my cocktail hour.

I personally didn't go see any bands either, it's very time consuming and most showcases are during the week. I work in the city and can't get to any of these places on time.

I heard a lot about Heart and Soul and I meet with Frank Wayne at his house in St. James and watched the DVD. I took it home, watched it some more, showed my family and booked them!

Okie dokie, now i am trying to narrow some places down, any info on the following would be appreciated (like pricing, what u think of them, what they include, instrumental for cocktail hour, etc.)

Heart and Soul
Fran Diamond
Code Bleu
Strings
The Projekt
Counterpoint (i am thinking of adding this for the ceremony and cocktail hour and then just having a regular band for the reception)

thanx!
