Need Advice on Interfaith Ceremony Please...Stressed out!
Hi all-
Kind of confused over here. So to sum it up my FH is Catholic-- I am not anything really. We met with an officiant who can do a non-denominational ceremony, but very personalized and we loved it. However, we are still considering having a priest as well out of respect for his beliefs and those of his family.
My question is this-- will a priest who is still associated with a church come to a reception hall and marry a catholic and a non-catholic with another officiant. I have heard that they can't and then I have heard that some will and I am just so confused and can't get to the bottom of it.
Also-- do you think a Priest would come to just say a blessing and not perform the ceremony?
Any help or even names of Priests would be so appreciated!

Does FH visit a church regularly with a priest that knows him & his family?

FH is Catholic and I am Jewish. Neither one of his really has our own officiants, but we were able to find both a priest and a rabbi online who would come to our RH and marry us there. Many priests will do it these days - its more common than it used to be. Call your FH's priest and ask him if he will do it.

Just a quick question- is the priest you found associated with a church or is he outside the church and will your marriage be recognized by the Catholic church?
Thanks!

I know in my church, the priest won't marry anyone unless it is physically IN the church, but the deacon can. My sister and her DH had the deacon marry them at their RH.
FH and I are in the same boat as you, I am non-practicing Catholic and he is nothing. We are just doing an officiant, not a religious one. The only one who had a problem with it was my grandma, but she got over it

Re: Need Advice on Interfaith Ceremony Please...Stressed out!
I don't know a lot about religion, but my friend got married at Christ the King in Commack(Roman Catholic church from what I can tell on their website) and her fiance is Jewish. He did not have any Jewish religious leaders/ representatives present. He had to do pre-cana, and had to vow to raise his children as Catholics during his marriage vows. They were married by a deacon. So, it seems like there is some flexibility, but it also seems like they want to make sure that any children will be raised into their religion.
Also, my parents were married in a non-religious chapel with religious figures from both Roman Catholic and Jewish faith leading the ceremony. This was 30+ years ago, so I can only imagine that this is easier to do now than it was then, and it was certainly possible then!
Good luck!
