NEED ADVICE ON TROUBLE WITH WEDDING CENTER

i NEED SOME ADVICE PLEASE! ....I HAD A PACKAGE INCLUDING PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEO AND INVITATIONS. A PHOTOGRAPHER THAT I HAD ORIGINALLY WANTED WHO WAS UNAVAILABLE FOR MY DATE IN MAY JUST BECAME AVAILABLE LAST WEEK. SO I CALLED THE PLACE I HAD INITIALLY BOOKED TO CHECK THEIR CANCELLATION POLICY. AND AFTER LISTENING TO HIM TRY TO CONVINCE ME TO STAY FOR A HALF HOUR FINALLY LET ME KNOW IF I KEPT MY VIDEO WITH THEM THEY WOULD TRANSFER THE BALANCE I PAID TO THE VIDEO WITH NO CANCELLATION FEE. THEN WHEN I WENT TO MODIFY MY CONTRACT THEY CHANGED THEIR MIND AND I NOW HAVE TO PAY $500 BECAUSE THEY STILL HAVE TO PAY THEIR PHOTOGRAPHER. i REFUSE TO PAY THIS FEE..TOTALLY b.S. AFTER DEALING WITH SOME HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE I NOW FEEL VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS PLACE. THEY SEEMED TO TAKE MY CANCELLING VERY OFFENSIVELY, YET I AM STILL GIVING THEM BUSINESS BY KEEPING THE VIDEOGRAPHY! I am very dispapointed with the attitude and am now not confident in the quality of their work, since the quality of customer service is extremely poor....AM NOW CONCERNED THAT MY VIDEO MIGHT BE POORLY DONE........ mAY ALSO ADD THIS PLACE IS ADVERTISED ON YOUR SIGHT WITH NO REVIEWS

The other brides are the ones who give reviews not the website administrators. For the most part most of us girls only go to a vendor AFTER there has been reviews by other brides. Good Luck to you, I hope it all turns out ok.

But what does your contract say about cancellations?

Alot of wedding venders have crazy cancellation policies. They pressure you to book and then when something better comes along, you might be screwed. if you feel like they are going to do a poor job, $500 is not worth having a bad video or pictures.. they last a life time and everytime you look at it, you will be reminded how much they sucked!! My advise if if you REALLY WANT the other photographer, and another Vidoegrapher, than eat the $500. I know it is alot, I would have trouble myself, but the alternative doesn't look so hot.

IF need be get a lawyer involved and read your contract....

What exactly does your contract say about cancellations? That's what you agreed to and that's what the wedding center is going to make you accountable for. Ask them if they would be willing to give you a refund if they are able to book the photographer between now and then.

Read your contract very carefully, since you are still retaining the service of their videographer, they may have no grounds to charge you a cancellation fee. They still have time to book another event so I don't think you should be paying $500 for the photographer.

Agree!

A lot of places have fees for cancellations. I don't think they are wrong for charging you a fee. It is wrong if they told you there was no fee and then that they changed their mind. I believe that the photographer and videographer are seperate people so the video person may not even know that you cancelled your photography and won't try to give you a bad video. What does your contract say?

I am aware of that...But I only recently found out about this wedding site. If I had know before I would not have booked there.

Re: NEED ADVICE ON TROUBLE WITH WEDDING CENTER

I think they are absolutely wrong! First of all I am not cancelling the contract, I am modifying it. Second of all they have ample time to find another client and if they don't they expect me to still pay him, (this is by the way the reason they gave me for the fee)......This is called a business loss I am not going to pay someone's salary for not working. And it is his employers responsiblity to pay him not mine. Thirdly when I called to make sure there was no fee, a managerial person told me there was no fee and it would not be a problem. How can they go back on their word? Meanwhile after hearing that I went out and hired another photographer. They are not even concerned with making their customer comfortable or happy and I am still giving them business just so I don't lose the money I already put down. Isn't that what a wedding center is supposed to do? All they are concerned with is their $500 and fighting me tooth and nail about it. Now knowing their customer service sucks I really don't want to give them any business. So I guess it just sucks for me that when it comes to my wedding,I am allowed to change my mind but for a price......I am just not down with that I guess

What kind of deposit have you already put down with them? I would really consider not even having them do you video if they're acting this way - throwing good money after bad is not a good idea. And you really want to feel confident of your vendors. I know of some good video people for around $600 if you decide to go with someone else.

Reread your contract and make sure what you agreed to.

Does the contract say that you have a time frame before which you can change your mind? Like does it say that you have until 90 before the date of the affair to maodify change your contract etc?

Re: NEED ADVICE ON TROUBLE WITH WEDDING CENTER

to me it is not very clear...It says 'Cancellations subject to 20% of total contract + tax paid. No refund if contract is cancelled 3 month of wedding.'

My girlfriend at work is faxing it to her friend that is a lawyer, hopefully he can help. I really don't even want to deal with these people anymore! But I did order my invitations through them.....

Re: NEED ADVICE ON TROUBLE WITH WEDDING CENTER

The vagueness of it is their weapon. It doesn't give a time frame so I can guess they can view it as a 'cancellation' if you decide to not go with the vendor/s you signed the contract with. Defintely have the lawyer check it out. Good Luck

yes they say they will refund the money if they are able to book it. But how do I know if they do actually book it...........?

The first thing you have to do is relax and take a deep breath. I am sure your lawyer friend will be able to help you understand the contract.

In the meantime, re-read the contract and try and figure out what they are stating.

According to the statement you posted from the contract, you are subject to fees if you cancel. 'Cancellations subject to 20% of total contract + tax paid. No refund if contract is cancelled 3 month of wedding.'

Unfortunately, the verbal agreement they made to apply your money to the other portion of the contract will be hard to make them uphold. I would report this to the better business bureau.
