Need Advice Please

Need Advice Please

Have any of you run out of things to put on your registry? My parents were generous to throw us an e-party, and we got a lot of gifts from our registry. I'm assuming I'll probably have a shower too at some point, which is also registry gifts?

FHs family is all from OOT and they want to give us registry gifts (or non-cash gifts at least) for the wedding. I'm afraid we are going to run out of things for our registry, and wouldn't feel right putting lots of random stuff on a BBB registry with the intention of returning it all for cash. I'm also afraid of what non-registry gifts we might get from FH's family (his grandparents originally wanted to get us a BBQ grill but we live on the third floor of an apartment! )

We're also not sure where we're going to be living once I graduate law school (one year after the wedding). If we stay here we'll be able to buy a house pretty easily, but if we move back to NY we'd probably be in Manhattan and it would mean moving everything 1000 miles. We can't exactly register for appliances like washer/dryer etc (our apt has one in-unit and it's not like we'd have a place to store it until we eventually get a house... whenever that will be )

Anyone else in the same position? We still need to add some things to our registry (towels, etc once we decide on a color) but unless every single person at our shower gives me lingerie we're going to have a majorly picked out registry once the wedding rolls around. it's picked out already!

Edit: We're considering doing a 'honeymoon registry' but don't know if that's too much like asking for cash. I'm assuming all of FH's OOT relatives who want to give a physical gift wouldn't be too fond of the idea anyway...

Have you gone through the checklists that the stores give you? What about cookbooks or electronics like a video camera or a DVD recorder or stuff like that?

I think doing the HM registry is PERFECT!!!!!!!!!

and make sure the person hosting your bridal shower let's guests know you'd rather get something towards your HM than things NOT on your registry.

there is also a registry called aftertheweddingday.com or something that you can register for concert tickets, movie passes, etc for your 1st year of marriage.

Im kind of in the same situation. FH and I are looking to move back into the city, which means downsizing. Can you register for larger things and maybe leave them at your parents? I will have no where to put china, but registering for it anyway in hopes that one day i will have a house.

Also, what about gift cards???? This way, when you are ready for the larger items you can purchase them ....

Same thing happend to me....I went back and just added anything. I went to BBB and asked them for help and they gave me great ideas of what to add....Do I need those items...no...but they will be good to have in the future. I even added a Roomba! lol I am actually very excited about that. Also, we asked our travel agent if people can buy our excursions and they said yes....there is so much you can use..i think the first round of picking stuff for a registry was stuff you 'needed' now add stuff you 'want'......did you register for luggage for you and FH I added that...I even registered for a vera bradly carry on at fortunoff...hey if someone wants to buy it for me! lol

Re: Need Advice Please

maybe someone (not you) like your parents can politely say $$ would be a good idea because you are in school and do not know exactly where you are going to be living after you graduate.....

set up a HM registry see how that goes....

gift cards are great

perhaps there are things you missed on the registry did you do both fine and casual china
what about stemware and reg everyday glasses

add extra place settings instead of 8 do 12 or if you did 12 maybe get an extra 4 sets of everyday just in case things chip??

add extra sheets and towels

Re: Need Advice Please

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I guess there are some things we could add, like fancier pots and pans (I have a pretty nice 1 year old cuisinart set that works well for us, but maybe we could add really fancy pots/pans when it gets closer to the wedding if there's nothing left on our registry).

We do still need to add towels (we didnt pick a color yet) but unless we register for 50 of them it's not going to do very much

I guess we could just register for lots of extra sheets, etc for when we will eventually have a house?

i think we *will* do a honeymoon registry though, since we will be paying for our HM entirely ourselves and would rather have $$ toward that than something we really don't need or want.

I've spent my whole life trying to buy only the things we need, and while it's fun to add things we want but dont need, I feel kind of guilty adding things we dont really need or even want.

Grrr.. if we had a house right now I'm sure I could find tons of things to register for, but we have a large spacious apt (I lived here a year before FH moved in) and we pretty much have everything we want or need. It got so 'bad' after our e-party that we had to convert our 2nd bathroom into a walk-in closet/storage room to house all of our gifts!

It's just now finally a bathroom again.. and our e-party was in aug!

You can register for gift cards at many stores (I know BBB, Macy's & Crate & B do this). Maybe that would be an option- shows up on the registry for shoppers and you can hold to buy when you realize more things you need....
