Need advice-tipping............

Hi girlies,

I desperately need your advice on this : how much tips should I give to 1) Maitre'D 2) Banquet Manager 3) Bridal Attendant 4) Waiters We are having 100ppl

My reception hall is completely disgusting in terms of wanting tips BEFORE the wedding This is a separate topic which I will get into in my review

TIA

Wait.... you have to tip BEFORE your wedding?!?!? How can that be? I thought a tip was given based on how service was?? How can you tip for something before it happens? Am I missing something here???

Yeap, this is how it is. Unfortunately, I am not the only one who has this problem at my hall Basically, I have no choice at this point. If I do not give tips now when it was openly told do, they will screw up the wedding It is quite depressing as we are pretty much trapped as we depend on their service I am so upset about this whole thing, I can not even think straight anymore

If it's not in your contract that you have to tip before the wedding, then refuse to do so! That's ridiculous. Otherwise, give $1 for each of the above and tell them the rest will be given on yuor wedding day, DEPENDING ON THE SERVICE!

I agree that's the best way-- they really need to work for the tip- if they don't like it- they should get out of the business- ridiculous

Re: Need advice-tipping............

That is so ridiculous I really do not understand RH's policy on tipping & very surprised on how they conduct themselves. TIPS are just extra & supposed to be at someone's discretion. Customers TIP when they are satisfied with the services that they provided. TIP generously when customer is really HAPPY with a job well done, otherwise, state it in the contract. The best one is tipping the BM's - we are supposed to tip the BM's for doing his/her job & not to mention that they are getting a percentage on our contracts already. Meanwhile, I don't think my BM is really doing anything extra for me (still have to see what kind of help he will provide).

Asking you for their TIPS when you do not even know what kind of services they will give you is BS. So if they do crappy job & they do an excellent job it does not matter either way. I say give them half of what you are supposed to give them during the day of & give the other half on your wedding day (or just screw them over & not give the rest of the money). Not really fair to the waitstaff but what they are doing is not fair either.

Sorry for going on & on - I'm just pissed to hear what you are going through w/ your RH. I also had a somewhat similar situation w/ my RH when we first went to see the place. My BM's first order of buss. is telling us that we have to tip him (not cool).

DId THEY tell you they'd screw up your wedding? If so, I'd have a looooooooong chat with the BM, preferably the OWNER, and discuss what's in the CONTRACT.

Gratuity, unless in the contract, is OPTIONAL.

Re: Need advice-tipping............

They did not tell me they will screw it up, what they told me is that suggested tips for Maitre'D, Bridal attendant & captains are $600-800 and ARE DUE IN CASH ON THE DAY WE ARE PAYING OUR FULL BALANCE.

Honestly I feel like i am going to shoot myself with all this crap

Thats so strange that you have to tip before the wedding... is there any way you can give them a small tip before the weddign and tell them that based on their service, you will give the remainder of the tip afterwards....

You need to make them work for something.. if you already tipped them, i dont feel that they will put as much effort into your affair. JMO

I thought most halls add 18 percent gratuity + tax to the price of a seating.

that's so rediculous. i'd go over the contract very carefully and then call the owner.

that's a disgusting practice and i'm sooo po'd for you.

my friend wants to get married there and i am telling her what you just said.

Re: Need advice-tipping............

Hi
you should not tip out before the event happened. usually gratiutes are in your contract and you pay at final payment. when it comes to the party actually happening you should tip the maitre'd at least $3 to 5 a head (amount of guest). Your bridal attendant, based on the catering hall. should get at least $100. Thats if she is there serving you all the way to the end. If during the party your guest tell you the service and food is outstanding you might want to ask the maitre'd how many staff are actually working your party and personally hand them $20.
