need advice - vendor related

So I booked a vendor that I really like and I think is great, but now I'm a little confused.

When I booked I was assured that I would be the only wedding on that day that this vendor would take care of. I was told that the only way they would double-book is if there was an emergency and they knew it would not interfere in any way with my services. I double-checked with this vendor several weeks ago and it was confirmed that the services would take 3 hours. I sent this person a schedule of my day and then received a reply saying this vendor would 'need to be done in 2 -2.5 hours if that's ok.'

Somehow this leads me to believe that there is some other obligation this vendor has after mine and instead of making sure I am unaffected (at the time I booked I was the ONLY person for that day)...this vendor is asking if they can have my permission to cut my services by a half hour to an hour for the same amount of money?

Am I justified in saying that this is not ok and that I booked because I was assured I would be top priority since they normally only do one wedding a day? In addition, how do I tell this person no without offending them and possibly scr*wing myself over on my wedding day? I feel like they put me in a very hard place where it's hard to say no and hard to say yes. Please feel free to tell me if I'm overreacting!

Please don't FM me for more details on this vendor, I would really like to work this out with this person...

that is a tricky situation...did it specify in your contract that it'd be 3 hours?

I would just politely state that You really need them for the full 3 hours, thats what makes you comfortable and thats what you booked them for and thats what you need.

For a vendor to do this, I believe they should be open and honest about why they need to...

however, that doesnt make it ok, and I would just be honest and thell them, 'You know what, its really not ok. I need this vendor for the full time. Thats what Im comfortable with, and thats what I really need.'

I would think its org supposed to take longer. I dont like the way that sentence was worded to you.

Please make sure you are honest ith them...and ask them....

'Its really not ok, i need him/her for the full 3 hours. Why do they have to be done so soon? I booked them under the assumption they would be here 3 hours, and thats how long i need them\.'

I agree that they have put you in an uncomfortable situation.

But I also think that it depends a little bit on what kind of vendor it is.

If its a florist, for example, then they may be able to hire additional staff to help speed up their timeframe of decorating the room.

If its a make-up artist or hair stylist, then you definitely don't want to feel rushed. That 1/2 hour could make a huge difference while you're getting ready. If they are only working on you, then I don't see how hiring extra staff could help. If they are working on other people too, then extra staff could work on more people at the same time.

I can't come up with other vendors where timeframe might be an issue .... but its late and my head is a little fuzzy at the moment.
