Need creative, Non-votive / non-paper place card ideas
I wanted to do votive place cards for my reception, but I can't do that.
Any creative suggestions? I'd prefer they not be paper or picture frames either. I considered the photo coasters. I'd get a set and tie them with a navy ribbon and put the names / table inside the top one...
I thought of Hershey bars and making labels / tying with ribbon for place cards... but that was my idea for the RD. I wanted to do that for the RD b/c it's being hosted by my FI's parents, who are from Hershey, PA where my FI grew up.
Any other ideas?

I saw a wedding in a magazine where they got little mirrors--maybe purse mirrors from the drugstore?--and wrote the names on them with a glass pen and placed them on the plates. Looked very pretty, as their table settings had a lot of shiny crystal and glass.
What is your table setup going to look like?

I know people have used cookies, you could even do cupcakes with little flags saying the name and table, I wanted to do loose flowers with tags, but there was just not enough time( I didnt even think of place cards until 3 weeks before the wedding, and didnt really start to worry until the week of! Thank goodness my bm made them for me the morning of the wedding!)

My CPs haven't been chosen yet, but will definitely be incorporating at lot of candles.
I had also thought of doing favor boxes with chocolate covered pretzels (or anything edible, really) inside. I'd wrap them in white paper and tie them with a navy bow. Then I could find big gift tags to put people's names / table numbers on and tie those to the package with the ribbon... We're doing a donation favor + something edible, so I thought this might be a nice idea...

I had shells with each guest's name on one side and the table number on the other. We setup a tray with sand at the entrance and the shells stood up in the sand.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but there's always the option of nixing placecards altogether. I've seen these matted frames that people rent and you put it on an easel in front of the room and it lists in alphebetical order people's names and what table they are sitting at. Just in case you can't find anything you really like in the ways of individual placecards, this might help! I'm sorry if this is totally not what you're going for but I hope I could help!!

There really is no theme. My BM dresses are Navy, so my colors are Navy and white.
It's a Saturday evening wedding. The tables will have lots of candle light.
Thanks for the ideas everyone! They're great ideas. I'm sure I'll find something I love.
Our theme was drunk...well at least it seemed that by the end of the night

I can't find the website right now... I'll keep looking but also try googling something like it- since you are using a lot of candles (so am I!!!) I found this candle snuffer than double as a place card holder and the place card holder part is shaped like a heart! It is soooo cute!!! I'll keep looking for the site...

You say non-paper, but I saw in MS Weddings (I love Martha, what can I say?) where they had dove-shaped cards with the name written on them slid onto the champagne glass at each seat. They cut a slit into the card and just slipped it onto the glass. You don't have to use a dove, you could use anything that fits your theme or the location. A lighthouse, a star, a leaf, a flower, whatever. It did look pretty as a bird though, like a bird had landed on the glass. A butterfly would have the same effect.

Hey, you stole my theme! Really, sounds like me--my BM dresses are navy, although my colors are navy, pale yellow and ivory. I'm mixing in some yellow for the paper goods and flowers, and the flowergirl will be wearing a pale yellow dress. We're on a Sunday afternoon, though, so it's a bit more casual. I like the way the yellow and blue looks. I did my STDs on 'butter' paper with navy printing and navy and yellow striped ribbon. Looked SO adorable and jaunty. I'm looking forward to my invites, which will be similar although I'm not doing them myself.
