i know i should post this on DIY but that room has been slow for a while it seems, and 1/2 the girls i've FM'd have not gotten back to me.
I am thinking about DIY'ing my invites.
where do i even start?? does this really save a substantial amount of money?? I really love d o c h e l l e but i can't afford $40 invitations, i'm no celebrity ((if you didn't know)). any suggestions? can anyone FM me what it cost to have elaborate diy's? I love metallic card stock and my theme is crystals....

where to start:
find what you like price out the materials
do you have a picture of what you would like to re-create?

Re: need DIY help
im not sure really.
my colors are black, white, and taupe with crystals. i have no specific style really. I had a sample made up from a girl who does them, but i've been giving her my price range and she hasn't done anything thats even close to what i can spend. it's been very frustrating. she does beautiful work but i just can't spend money like that on invites.

Re: need DIY help
pocketfolds... you can buy them cheap or you can even make them yourself. it's more work, but cheaper
i got my pocketfolds from mygatsby.com they have GREAT customer service and their prices are good
another thing to think about with pocketfolds is size, smaller means cheaper. i did 5x7
i made my own invites. it's been so long, i don't remember if there's a pic in one of my albums
how much can you spend and how many do you need? (if this is too personal, you can fm me the info)

Re: need DIY help
check out cardsandpocketsstore.com I am ordering the pocketfolds from there, as well as the invitation cards. I could probably get the invites cheaper but it's one less thing I have to cut. I am buying the 50 cent cardstock for the brown flowers as I will only need about 3 sheets to make the flowers and I will be ghetto and cut the blue flowers from the inside of the blue mat. The mat I'm not sure where I am getting, I can order them for 45 cents each (cut to size) or I can buy 12X12 sheets and cut them myself. The crystals in the center of each flower are 200 for $4 at Joann's. Please ignore the margins on the invite, it is not a final copy!!!! I ordered a mock-up kit from cardsandpockets for $10 (well worth it) and we finally got the margins right but I got tired of waiting!
i would actually try posting this on the newlywed board...the majority of us are super helpful, and being that pocketfolds have been the trend this past year, i'm sure there's a TON of girls who'd be able to help ya

Re: need DIY help
we DIYed our pocketfold invites and are pretty artsy as a whole so FM if you have any questions about construction or places to buy materials.
Like Katie&Chris2006 said, be ready to make a time committment for not only the production of the invites, but the shopping around for materials and supplies... completely worth it in the end though.

Re: need DIY help
Try PaperSource.com. I'm not sure the site has pocketfolds, but it's a good site for getting ideas and it even has some downloadable templates. PaperSource isn't the lowest cost supplier, so I wouldn't necessarily buy there. As with all DIY, price it out.
