Need feedback from those who have been on cruises!

About 11 family/friends (including DH and I) are going to go on a cruise next June to celebrate my mother's birthday (it's a biggie!). The group wants to take something that leaves out of NY. It's a mixed age group, but no little kids and no elderly. So, they were thinking of going on Carnival Legend (8 day). I'd rather not be stuck on a ship, and be at ports, but if I have to be on a ship half the time, I'd like one to be fun and not for the old fogeys!

Has anyone been on this ship? Can anyone recommend a cruise leaving from NY?

I have check so many of the review sites (like those listed on LIW) but I'm looking for feedback from the LIW weddings ladies b/c it's always the best!

We took the Legend from Ft. Lauderdale to Barbados, St. Martin, & Martinique--its one of the newer ships and was really nice. I dont know about the ones that leave from NY, but its a good ship with a LOT to do on it.

we took a cruise out of NY to Bermuda 3 years ago. Celebrity Cruises...it was the whole family for my grandparent's 50th anniversary and it was a great time - we stopped in 2 ports and had a bunch of time to do what we wanted to do in bermuda, but the boat itself was amazing enough!
Not sure of a lot of the details such as cost and whatnot, becuase i didn't have to pay , but you can FM me for any details you're wondering about!
it's a lot of fun!!

Check out cruise critic This is a posting board where you can get all the info that you might need on specific lines etc.

I would look into Celebrity - they have the best food and service of the ships - and if you are doing a bermuda cruise - then it has the best ports.

Royal Caribbean - is an older boat to bermuda - but it has those huge boats that go to various places down in the caribbean and to canada now that also leave from NY

Thanks for all your feedback! I should have mentioned before but most of the group did a cruise out of NY to Bermuda about 3 years ago, so they are looking for something different this time. Thank you all for responding!

My inlaws just got back from the Legend on Friday and they said the food was horrible!!! Carnival cut out a lot of the nicer menu items since their last cruise. They said that they had a great time just were disappointed with the food.

I'm am going on the Legend Carnival 8 Day Cruise to the Caribbean for my honeymoon(in 1 week). Jenn524 also went on it for her honeymoon last May & she said it was wonderful. I am very excited about it & I've heard that Carnival is the party cruiseline. I'll give a full review when I get home.

Hi, FH & I went on the New England cruise on Carnival Victory in Sept. & although it was major kids (it was the last week of summer vacation), the ports were great (St. Johns & Halifax), we had a balcony cabin and it was nice. I do have to say the food and service did not compare to Royal Carribean but the ship was newer and it was nice overall. FM me if you have any q's.

We went on the same trip for our honeymoon and I highly recommend it. We had such a great time. I loved the ship and the people on it. The ports were great, St. Thomas was beautiful. I can't tell you how much I loved everything. If you want to FM me specific questions, feel free. I am more than happy to talk about the Carnival Legend.

My in-laws just took a cruise leaving out of NY to Barbados with Royal Carribean. They said it was fun on the boat, but it did not meet their expectations. The food was great, but not constant like you hear on other cruises. I can't say I wouldn't recommend them because I didn't hear anything awful. But it sounds like it didn't even compare to our cruise.

Just wanted to add, it's a very mixed age group on the Legend so it may be what you're looking for. We actually had more older people on our cruise than I expected. Which was nice for a honeymoon. But I do hear that there are times (like spring and summer break) where any of these cruise lines get packed with teenagers. So you may want to try to plan around when school gets out if you can.

Thanks again ladies! Danielle, I'll FM you for your cousin's contact after I speak to some in the group! We'd love to be able to plan around school breaks, but I'm a speech teacher so I am off when the kids are. Not a big deal though!

We went on the Carnival Pride to Bermuda over the summer. We loved it. The ship was beautiful and we would definately cruise again.

FH & I took a carnaval cruise out of Ft Laud. to Bahamas. We had a great time, but would not go back to bahamas. Not enough to do off ship (the town and locals are shady,,,,especially at night) unless you wanted to pay for the 'off shore excursions'.

They was a wide variety of ages. We had more fun with 2 couples about 6 or 7 years older than us, and left our table to sit at theirs.
