It depends on where you are looking. If you are looking in Manhattan, Queens or Brooklyn I would suggest Craigs List.

you could go to www.craigslist.com and they have a bunch of apartments/houses for sale and rent. or you could go the realtor route to assist you. I dont do rentals but I have a friend who does rentals in Queens and Nassau. FM if you want her info. She's the best and will be more than happy to do the investigating for you. HTH!

I too recommend craigslist. I also recommend contacting management companies directly. If you tell me where you are looking to buy/rent I can provide additional details as I have been down both paths! Feel free to FM.
is a good site. they have listings for queens & li. just make sure to click condo/coop in the search section

Try Fairfield Properties. They have big apartments and some have waher/dryer's in the apartment. There is a rent.com website. I believe.

we are in an apartment building....the company is home properties and they have a lot of complexes throughout the country. it is very nice, fairly priced, and they keep the grounds/buildings in good condition. there are also faifield properties. We're at 'mid island apartments' in bay shore , which is HP.

Craigslist.com is really great with constant new updates it all the time. I live in long beach, and it is like apartment central, there are soo many buildings, alot of them allow dogs, and cats. There is alot to do around here to!

We live in a complex owened by Home Porperties! Very spacious and we love it!! Kinda of pricey though!! We pay a lot for two bedroom!!!

Try driving around in the areas that you are interested in. Most apartment buildings have signs on them with contact info. Hopefully if you go to the apt directly you can avoid a broker's fee. Lot's of apt buildings in Long Beach.

Craigslist! I found a great apartment in Brooklyn, there may be other places available in the building if you're interested. Brooklyn right near the Brooklyn Bridge.

Rent.com was great. I used then and when I signed a lease with a place I found through them they actually sent my a $100 gift card. I live in the Southpoint apartment complex in Massapequa and love it.
