Need Help Deciding on Time to Start the Ceremony!!!

We are pretty flexible with the Reception Hall, so far we have a start time of 7pm.. I don't know what time to start the ceremony at the church.. I really don't want to see Dave before the ceremony, and the sunset early in November... I really wanted to take pictures outside, Is 3:30 too early to have the Church, and then maybe start the Reception at 6:30, I don't want too much of a gap in between.... Please, I need some suggestions!!! Thanks Gina & Dave (He's sitting behind me as I'm writing this)....

My ceremony is at 3(the lastest the church will let us have it) and the reception is at 6pm. We may add an extra half hour so it would start at 5:30. I know people hate time in between but my parents house will be open for out of towners and my best friend from here in CA will have everyone over there with refreshments.

I'm having trouble figuring out the timing too. It's very annoying. The church we're getting married in will only do cermonies at 11, 1, and 3 on Saturdays. I didn't want too much of a gap either, but want time for pix. I really want to be there for my cocktail hour. Do you know what times your church will do ceremonies? How close is the church to the reception? 3:30 and 6:30 sounds good to me.

My ceremony is at 4pm, CH starts at 8pm. It's like a 45 min drive from church to reception hall.

Your 3 hour gaps sounds good. I wanted to leave enough time to take picturees and I want to go to my CH.

Well, since my wedding is on a Thursday night, both the reception hall and the church seem to be flexible. But, I just spoke with the church and they told me CCD starts at 4:30 on Thursdays, so I would probably want the ceremony at 3, so we don't bump into any kids.. If I chose 3, then I would have to start the reception at 6:30, is that too much of a gap....

Ceremony was at 3:30 and the CH started at 6PM. Ceremony was VERY short and we did a receiving line, pictures and attended the CH.

That's a tough one. On one hand, I think it's the perfect amount of time because you have enough time for pictures and attend your cocktail hour. I guess it is a gap for people, but hopefully they will come to the church anyway. My feeling is the really important people will be there no matter what.

Truthfully, I think everyone expects a small lag in b/w the church and the reception. We went to a wedding where they had a 5:00 mass and I felt like we were rushing to the CH. I think 3:00-3:30 is perfect - dont miss your CH!

I think that is fine. My church is at 2:30 (Greek church, so probably will be 45 minutes), then about 3:30 we go take pictures at a few places, and our CH starts at 7. We might get there a little early which is fine.

Both our Dj and our photographer told us that three hours is ideal. Because the ceremony will prob last like an hour after everyone leaves and then you have to take pics wherever you want to and then you have to get there, maybe you can take pics at the place before anyone gets there so that you have more time to spend with your guests.JMO

It depends on if you want to take pics outside, while it is light out...

The sun will probably start to set about 4:30.

I do want to take pics outside before the sun goes down, sooo should I keep the time as:::

2:30 Ceremony & 6:30 Reception
3:00 Ceremony & 6:30 Reception
3:30 Ceremony & 7:00 Reception
3:30 Ceremony & 6:30 Reception

If the sun sets around 4:30- 4:45 I need enough time for pics, I don't want to miss my cocktail hour, But I don't want too much of a gap either.... Thank you all, I just don't know...

How long is the ceremony? Where are you having it? Where are you taking pics? How far are all of these places from each other and to the hall?

You have to count traveling time too.

We are having a 2:00 ceremony (1/2 hour) and the CH starts at 6:30.I plan to attend the CH and get the hall around 5:30.

Also account for time for the receiving line after the ceremony.

The Church is in Greenlawn, and I'm only having the ceremony, not a mass, I don't know where I'm having pictures taken (i need Ideas for that too). To get from Greenlawn to the South shore ( The Riviera), is probably 1/2 hour ride... How long does the time at the church usually take???

The ceremony in the church should take about 1/2 hour. So if you start on time, I would say give yourself 30-45 min for the receiving line.

I don't really know where to tell you to take pics, maybe planting fields? So if that takes a max including travel time of 2 hours.

I would recommend having the ceremony at 2:00 or 2:30- then have the CH at 6:30, you should be fine.

Try to take all of the pics of you alone or with BM's/parents/whoever, before the ceremony.

My ceremony is at 4pm and the cocktail hour is at 7pm. I am afraid that is not enough time. You need to consider your ceremony will not start at exactly 3:30, the bride is always fashionably late. Also after the ceremony the receiving line will take a while. Then I am sure you will be taking pictures at the church. Once you get to the reception hall you will be taking more pictures. If you want to attend your cokctail hour you will have to be there early. Trust me 3 hours in between is cutting it close. If you are concerned about your guests, dont be. It is your day. You really do not want to feel like your day is being rushed.
