Need Help Finding A Tutor for a Spanish-Speaking Girl

I have a friend whose daughter is in Pre-K. She recently met with a doctor and the school staff. They are considering having the girl repeat Pre-K next year.

When she goes to school, she goes to a 2-hour class to learn English. One of the issues they are having is that if Mom reads her a story and then asks her daughter to give back a description of what she just read to her, the daughter is not able to give much feedback. They think that it is because she does not understand most of what she is listening to.

So, we think that if she gets one-on-one private tutoring with English that it will help the situation. The family lives in Merrick, but would also be available in Queens.

Any recommendations or referrals? TIA!

IMO, she should have her daughter evaluated by the school district CPSE. If she is having comprehension issues, it MIGHT be able to be classified under speech and language delay. Does she have comprehension issues in Spanish as well?

Keeping her back in Pre-K IMO is a good idea if the child is having these 'issues' I think that she should talk to the district about getting her evaluated and getting her services through the district.
