I need help finding a great evening gown for a wedding I'm going to at the Metropolitan Club and that I can wear for our company holiday party at the Carltun. Both are basically black tie events... I've been shopping around-Bloomingdales, Lord and Taylor, etc. and have found nothing. Any suggestions????

try Group Usa maybe and sometimes Ann Taylor has fancy dresses.

If you couldnt find anything in those stores you already mentioned checking, then I can't imagine where you are going to find something! How about Macys or Davids Bridal (they have lovely ready to wear evening gowns!)

Does it have to be a gown? Banana Republic has some really beautiful skirts and tops and dresses right now that could total pass black tie.

I just bought a gorgeous Jessica McClintock dress for that award benefit I wrote about from Bloomingdales in Garden City (the Bloomingdales in Huntington had nothing!
Basically, it looked exactly like the dress Marylin Monroe wore in that Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend song/movie. Strapless, satin. I got SOOOOOO many compliments, and so did FI (people were saying, 'you've sure got a knockout Brian....he looked so 'proud' and I was very flattered).
When I get the pics developed I'll post!

Ann Taylor Loft has a beautiful v-neck gown! It's cranberry and either silk or satin. I saw it at the one at 42nd street & Lex.

Oh yeah, and I chose a sapphire blue instead of the traditional pink (re: the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes move dress), it just looked better with my very dark hair and blue eyes.

They had a lot of gorgeous gowns...was the gown mostly black with like white on the side of the gown, almost like a verticle strip (I'm describing it bad)...anyways, I LOVE HER GOWNS and this gown I'm talking about was grogeous!

It is black and has white trim and then opens to the side with some white trim and a white bow..

Thank you girls!!! Great suggestions!!! It doesn't have to be black...
I tried one on today that I LOVED but-here's the dilemma-it's one of those gowns that has a PLUNGING neckline... For those of you who know me-I'm more than ample on top and even though it was flattering, I'm not sure it's really appropriate.
I usually buy my stuff at Ann Taylor but I'm thinking a little more daring this year...

Kathy-I tried one on in Bloomingdales the other day... I'm not sure if it's the same dress or not-the one I tried was a strapless black with 2 red stripes running down the side with a kind of fishtail shape...

No Leelee, no fishtail...it almost like hugged your bodly all the way down...not tight, but it wasn't like a fishtail. And it was solid color, no stripes.
