I was invited to a bridal shower for a co-workers son. I have met him and his FI a few times and I am good friends with my co-worker. The registry has alot of china and bedding and that's about it. I wanted to know if I should go out on my own to get something or stick with the registry. I was thinking of spending around $75-$100 on the gift, but I don't like getting only one place setting of china, or just a sheet set. What do you all think I should do?? Is it wrong for me to choose something not on the registry?? Thanks ladies.

Re: Need help for a shower gift...
I would put together a basket of items.. think about a theme.. perhaps a honeymoon basket? find out what kind of food he/she likes? for ex. you can put together an chinese/japanese themed basket, together cool chopsticks, placemats, bamboo, plates and make your own sushi kit? that sort of thing..

I don't think it's wrong to go off the registry.
How about a small wine rack w/ some bottles of wine. I got that & I love it.

Re: Need help for a shower gift...
When I had my shower I never got any baking pans etc, so when my cousins came up this year a made a basket of baking items that included:
Muffin Pan Cake Pan Loaf Pan Cookie Sheet Oven Mit Yellow Cake Mix Chocolate Cake Mix WHite Frosting Chocolate Frosting Whisk Cup Cake Wrappers Plastic Spatuala 1 of those just add eggs and milk recipes in a jar that I did myself and put it in a bale jar and decorated it witha swatch of material, then tied a rope around the top of it.
I got everything from Walmart! It cost me only $30, but of course you can always spend more. The basket I put the items in I also got at Walmart for $4.

A bale jar is something people use to put homemade perserves in. I has a two piece top to it. You can find hem at Walmart too.
