Just wondering if any ex-smokers have some useful tips aside from the gum/patch/meds etc..?
This is something that FH and I really need to do, especially since they are raising the cost by $1.50 in June and the amount of $$$ we would be spending a week to kill ourselves (lets be honest) is insane!!! Esp. since we alone are paying for the wedding!
TIA !!
******Just created a QUIT SMOKING Thread for all who are interested in taking on this massive test of will power!!!!*********

Re: Need help from the ex-smokers!!!!
I took a pill called Chatix, I swear by it. I had no urge to smoke after a 2 weeks.
It blocks the nicotine receptors in your brain that keep wanting you to smoke.
I tried quitting a few times and this is the only thing that worked for me. Don't get me wrong I still will get the urge when I drink but the next day I have no urge at all.
You can get a script from your doctor for it. Heres the website. Read up on it.
Some people say the get stomach pains but I took it right after I ate so I didn't have that. But with any drug there are side effects.
It cant hurt to try it. GOOD LUCK!! FM me if you have any more questions.

yeah, DONT SMOKE GIRLIES!! I want you girls around these boards in 20 years tlaking about grandkids!
My friend stopped cold turkey and she said that was the only way she could stop. She ate alot of thin pretzels too, she said she thinks she was more addicted to the motion of something going fromher hand to her mouth!
Start a no smoking club on here please! Im sure there are more girls who don't want to smoke and don't want to waste the money before their wedding!

Re: Need help from the ex-smokers!!!!
I am an ex smoker now for 2 years. I started smoking at a VERY young age and smoked for 10 years. Anyway, I quit COLD turkey. I didn't need anything to help. Just said one day NO MORE and threw them out. If you really want to do it, you can. Good luck.

I haven't smoked for almost three years now (except for two times when I had one or two and then felt horrible about it and got back on the wagon!) My greatest advice is to keep busy. The more I did, the less likely I was to think about it. I still want them from time to time, but I am glad I was able to kick it!

This is true. Keeping busy is the way to go. I started working out hardcore when I quit smoking or went for walks and started running. Seeing that I could go for runs and work out without getting winded def helped. It made me not want to go back.

Re: Need help from the ex-smokers!!!!
I recently quit after a ten year smoking addition and then went right back to it three months later.
I need to quit too!!! I used the patch and quit cold turkey and it was alot easier then i thought but now with the nice weather is horrible....

Re: Need help from the ex-smokers!!!!
I recently quit in November...cold turkey. It was HARD!! I chewed gum...that helped. I also started going to the gym. I figured I would try trading one unhealthy habit for a more healthy one. After running or working out I wouldn't even THINK about smoking. (It also helps to not gain weight when you quit)
I also rewarded myself frequently. After two weeks of quitting I treated myself to a manicure, etc.
Good luck!! Its sooooo hard but right now I'm SO happy I did it!
