Is it normal to go with the lawyer that your realtor suggests? What about the title guy? Need any advice in this area. TIA!!!!!!!

You could use who they reccommened they do this for a living and all work together. If the lawyer doesnt do his job the real estate agent could lose you and there commission.

I'm a lawyer and I don't believe in going with the one your realtor recommends. There are enough lawyers out there that you don't need to hire one where there is any question about their loyalty. If I recall correctly, we went with my lawyer's title person (I didn't represent us).

ETA: For one house that we almost purchased, I received several solicitation phone calls from lawyers that were connected with the seller's broker. Those calls were a violation of attorney ethical rules.

I got a list of lawyers in Nassau, Sufflolk, and Queens. FM me if you want the names of some of them. You can check their prices against the ones that your realtor gave you.

I would NOT go with the lawyer that your realtor suggests.
The realtor's goal is to get the deal signed, done, and delivered.
Its a business......
I recommend going with a totally DIFFERENT lawyer, mortgage broker, and most importantly....a different inspector than your realtor suggests.
This will ensure that nobody influenced your vendors........like the realtor.
We just bought a home......my number one lesson is to NOT use the recommended vendors by your realtor. Its a sad commentary, but the truth.
GOOD LUCK.
If you are buying in NJ...I have vendors for you. NY I am not sure about.
Good luck!

I was going to use a lawyer my mortgage company highly recommended and I almost got screwed! Apparently there was a 10 by 10 property the previous owner fenced off and by law it now belong to the next door neightboor ...

My lawyer didn't fight this with the previous owners lawyer. She was not looking after my best interest at all. So ... I called her and fired her. FH and I then decided to hired a NYPD lawyer. He was amazing! I got my 10 by 10 property back. Neighbor had to sign an affidavit with the court before the closing.

I didn't go with any recommendation from our REA - my FIL had a lawyer who was working on the estate settlement/sale for his mother who passed away in July, so he asked him if he would be willing to work with us and he agreed and became our lawyer during our contract discussions and such. I highly recommend him and he's also going to to be dealing with our will and anything else we need a lawyer for.

We went with everyone that our RE agent recommended!! We trusted her and she never let us down!! They all work together on houses all the time so the process ran smoothly and we never had to worry about miscommunication or anything like that. We had a really great experience with our RE agent and everyone (mortgage broker, lawyer, inspector) that she recommended!!

If you are afraid of 'kickbacks' know that they are illegal. If your REA is working with anyone else to recieve kickbacks, then they are all shady.
A REA will usually recommend someone he or she has worked with in the past, either personally or professionally and has had a good experience. I don't think its a bad thing to go with a recommendation.

my father was our attorney. If I didn't have him, I would ask for referrals here or on LIF

YOu don't have to go with the lawyer that the agent requested. I used to work for a law firm so I already knew who I was going to use.

See how much the attorney is charging you.

You can FM me and I will tell you if that is a good price.

we would have used a lawyer they recommended -but we used one a friend had referred.

honestly - i dont think my lawyer did much for me - he negotiated nothing as far as banking - he just checked the financials of the co-op to make sure it was a good investment.

my lawyer was actually a tool - who i yelled @ more than once - and was so scared to face me he sent an affiliate to closing.
so if i knew then what i know now - i would have just went with the guy w/ the cheapest fee - i would have had the same result i am sure.
