Okay.. I am really trying hard to cut costs down on my budget... so here is my questions:
I was origanally going to get a STD magnet... now i am thinking just send a post card with a picture that goes along with my theme?
What do you thinkg? cheesy?

not at all.... the only difference between the card and the magnet is that the magnet will stick to your fridge. We've gotten both from people and didn't really think much of the difference.

A postcard announcing your engagement and letting guests know your wedding date is not cheesy. Many ideas you get from here many people have never heard of. I have never heard of a STD magnet until after I was engaged and started looking on websites.

I think a postcard is perfect since, honestly, how long will people, aside from close family, keep the magnet anyway? I got picture postcards made up at target and spent $.40 each.

I don't think that it's cheesy at all. You can make a postcard look really nice especially if it goes with your theme.

Thanks girls for making me feel much better about this. I am trying to cut my cost so much bc i saw myself getting out of control and ignoring the budget.. that i want to get back on track.

You can even do photocards through york photo online. It's 39cents.
not tacky at all the only reason that I am going to do a mgnet is because I was worried that my guests would toss it . Go for it save save save

if you're trying to stick to a budget, maybe you can even forgo the save the date. it is optional after all. i liked the idea a lot, but realized it would probably be a waste of money. i can use that money towards other things.

I agree. I cut them out of my budget as well. But if you decide to, definitely save the money and go with the postcard.

We are DIYing our STDs. We are doing postcards with magnets on the back (businees card size magnets), putting them in envelopes and calling it done!

we also cut the STD out of our budget
we have never received one until recently - and they arent necessary unless you have lots of OOT guests or you are getting married on a holiday weekend
we have tons of OOT guests but i just annoy them a lot with the date

people will either put a STD magnet on their fridge, or use a magnet they have to hang your postcard on their fridge.
we've done both, and neither one has made a difference to me...i think the postcard is cute.

Also, check out shutterfly or snapfish...you can get STDs made there and they come out great!

Nah not cheasy at all. Honestly most people don't do a std its just if you would like to do it or not. I would do a postcard big time just do it either on a snapfish or kodak place or go to vistaprint.

I think postcards are fine, I was probably going to do something similar myself! I don't want to go crazy spending money on those, but I need them since at least half of our guests are OOT!

I am doing mine from Target also. They have a lot of different ideas you can do, and you can also get a lot of coupons, and such to make them even cheaper.
