Re: need help on a song to dance with my dad
We're dancing to 'In My Daughter's Eyes' by Martina McBride. I had never heard the song before my dad told me that's what he wanted to dance to. I cried the first time he played it for me. Here's the lyrics:
In my daughter's eyes I am a hero I am strong and wise and I know no fear But the truth is plain to see She was sent to rescue me I see who I wanna be In my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal Darkness turns to light and the world is at peace This miracle God gave to me gives me strength when I am weak I find reason to believe In my daughter's eyes
And when she wraps her hand around my finger Oh it puts a smile in my heart Everything becomes a little clearer I realize what life is all about
It's hangin' on when your heart has had enough It's giving more when you feel like giving up I've seen the light It's in my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes I can see the future A reflection of who I am and what will be Though she'll grow and someday leave Maybe raise a family When I'm gone I hope you see how happy she made me For I'll be there In my daughter's eyes

We're dancing to 'Father and Daughter' by Paul Simon.
If you ever awake In the mirror of a bad dream And for a fraction of a second, You can't remember where you are Just open your window And follow your memories Upstream To the meadow in the mountain Where we counted every falling star
I believe the light that shines on you Will shine on you forever (forever) And though I can't guaruntee there's nothing scary Hidin' under your bed I'm gonna Stand guard Like the postcard Of the golden retriever And never leave 'Til I leave you With a sweet dream in your head
[CHORUS] I'm gonna watch you shine Gonna watch you grow Gonna paint a sign So you always know As long as one and one is two Ooh ooh There could never be a father Love his daughter more than I love you
Trust your intuition It's just like going fishin' You cast your line and Hope you get a bite
But you don't need to waste your time Worryin' about the marketplace Trying to help the human race Struggling to survive It's as harsh as night
[CHORUS x2]

This is what we danced too. I just got goose bumps. That last verse made it for me.

We are dancing to You are The Sunshine of My Life by Stevie Wonder. My Dad used to sing it to me when I was little. The words don't EXACTLY fit but we had to use it. My Dad was very sick in a coma about two years ago and I sang it to him then. He didn't remember but he woke up about 2 days after.
You are the sunshine of my life That’s why I’ll always be around, You are the apple of my eye, Forever you’ll stay in my heart
I feel like this is the beginning, Though I’ve loved you for a million years, And if I thought our love was ending, I’d find myself drowning in my own tears.
You are the sunshine of my life, That’s why I’ll always stay around, You are the apple of my eye, Forever you’ll stay in my heart,
You must have known that I was lonely, Because you came to my rescue, And I know that this must be heaven, How could so much love be inside of you?
You are the sunshine of my life, yeah, That’s why I’ll always stay around, You are the apple of my eye, Forever you’ll stay in my heart.

i am your child by barry manilow I am your child. Wherever you go, you take me, too. Whatever I know, I learn from you. Whatever I do, you taught me to do. I am your child. And I am your chance.
Whatever will come, will come from me. Tomorrow is won, by winning me. Whatever I am, you taught me to be. I am your hope, I am your chance, I am your child.
Whatever I am, you taught me to be. I am your hope, I am your chance, I am your child.

Re: need help on a song to dance with my dad
I love the lyrics to this song and I love Tony Bennett, but my dad thinks its too slow . . .
Maybe you or someone else can use it. You can download it from iTunes. Its from an old Bway show called Two By Two by Richard Rodgers:
I do not know a day I did not love you I can't remember love not being there The planting when the earth ran through your fingers The harvest when the sun danced in your hair
I do not know a day I did not need you For sharing every moment that I spent I needed you before I ever knew you Before I knew what needing someone meant
And if we ever were to have tomorrow One fact alone is full and filled with song You will not know a day I do not love you The way that I have loved you all along

Re: need help on a song to dance with my dad
Here's another one that I'm not using, but I think is really beautiful:
Steven Curtis Chapman \ I Will Be Here
Tomorrow morning if you wake up and the sun does not appear I will be here If in the dark, we lose sight of love Hold my hand, and have no fear 'Cause I will be here
I will be here When you feel like being quiet When you need to speak your mind I will listen And I will be here When the laughter turns to cryin' Through the winning, losing and trying We'll be together I will be here
Tomorrow morning, if you wake up And the future is unclear I will be here Just as sure as seasons were made for change Our lifetimes were made for these years So I will be here
I will be here And you can cry on my shoulder When the mirror tells us we're older I will hold you And I will be here To watch you grow in beauty And tell you all the things you are to me I will be here
I will be true to the promise I have made To you and to the One who gave you to me
Tomorrow morning, if you wake up And the sun does not appear I will be here Oh, I will be here

We're using My Girl, specifically chosen because it's upbeat and not mushy.

Re: need help on a song to dance with my dad
We're doing combined Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dance.
Totally didn't want anything sappy so settled with 'You are the sunshine of my life'. Not too slow, and not going to make any of us break out sobbing! :)

it was the morning of the dj appt and we still hadn't picked out a song and one of my dads guests (they own a b&b) suggested it.. and my dad loved it.
