Need help! Traffic on I495 / Northern Boulevard question
Really need your help here... i'm chartering a bus to carry guests from Queens to Old Westbury (getting married in de Seversky).
Google Map tells me that taking I495 would be faster but have a risk of being caught in a 30 minute traffic (30-60min) whereas taking the Northern Boulevard it would cost me 45min flat. Is that true? Should I go with Northern Boulevard? Is it true that the traffic there will be much better?
Sorry I live in the city and only go to Long Island on weekends. Have no idea! wedding is Friday afternoon 5.30pm... I'm a little scared the traffic will mess up with my wedding schedule!
Thanks so much... any suggestion welcome!!
PS: i had a similar post here before and got some very helpful tips! so I've moved the pickup location from Manhattan to right across the river in Queens... hoping this would save me some traffic issues.

Either way there is going to be traffic. 495 will probably have more traffic, but no lights. With Northern Blvd, there are lots of lights.

495 has the HOV lane. Northern has a lot of lights

Hmmmm. It's a shame you can't take the Grand Central/Northern State. It's your best bet because the LIE is a hell hole during rush hour.
Northern Blvd. would take REEALLLLY long and it does get congested during rush hour as well. Just have the shuttle leave at 3pm, you will be ok.

At rush hour i would totally avoid the 495 aka the LIE the traffic is like a parking lot at that time especially when your still in Queens.Once your out of Queens it gets better. Northern boulevard is not the greatest but at least it will be faster than the LIE.
