To tell you the truth....I do not think a priest will marry you outside of a church. And you don't need to belong to a church to get married in one. They ask they you become a member, but that's all. That is what FH and I did.

you definitely have to take precana even if you have a deacon marry you... unless you have a priest as a family friend, they usually will not marry you... my suggestion is rentapriest.com, you can get one that comes to the place

You can get married in a hall by a priest...I recently went to a wedding like that. Check your hall's list of recommended officiants and call one of the priests. See what information they can give you.

Hi. There is a RC Priest that WILL marry you at a hall. My sister is thinking of using him, he seems really nice.

Anyhow, here is his site

A Catholic priest can't marry you outside of the Church unless you get dispensation. This is usually given for interfaith marriages. If you and your fiance are both Catholic, they probably won't do it. For it to be recognized by the church, you still have to do Pre-Cana, even if you have the ceremony outside of the physical church building. There are men who are former priests, no longer officially part of the church who may perform the ceremony for you at your hall if you can't get the dispensation. One wedding I was in had a minister that was recommended by the hall.

I was in a simlar situation- I am getting married by a former catholic preist- at the hall- basically to appease my grandma

I can give you his name if you want- you don't have to take pre- cana- but your marriage wont be recoginzed by the church- but it will by the state

it depends what is important to you!

This is no longer true. My sister and her husband are both catholic, both made all of thier sacraments, and were married on the beach by a priest (not a deacon, not a minister, not a defunked priest, a priest)--with the right donation, anything can happen.

You will have to do pre-cana though.

Are you baptized in the Catholic church? If not you probably can't get married by a priest. If so, make an appointment with the a priest at the church you live closest to. Just call them and tell them your situation. They will give you all the info you need. I'm not sure a Roman Catholic priest will marry outside the church.

Wow! I didn't think they would do this, just because they's be afraid it would open the door for other people to ask. Well, this supports my 'every parish does its own thing' theory.

The requirement that two Catholics marry inside a church is still very much true. Only the local Bishop can grant permission for a marriage to be celebrated in another suitable place. What dpli said is correct.

It would be interesting to know where it was that your sister was married. I would find it very hard to believe that it was in the Diocese of Rockville Centre or Brooklyn. If it was, then it was most likely performed by someone misrepresenting themselves.

Techincally he's no longer a RC Priest. He was for approx 20 years and left because of a man made Catholic law. He will preform a Catholic wedding if that is what you want, but it will NOT be recognized by the church.
With that said...

He's an amazing man. We're so blessed to have him preform our ceremony. Here's my favorite picture of him at our wedding...
