Need Help with a CRAZY Family Situation...

Hi Girls..I haven't posted much on here lately because FH and I completely gutted a house and rebuilt it in the last few months (since October)...so wedding plans have been kinda on the back burner. Well, now we're in the new house (and they're still working around us...we lived in FIL's basement for 7 months!!!!!!!) and I have to get a move on with these wedding plans...

I think I may have just about one of the craziest family situations and I'm soooooo confused on what to write on the invite...here's the situation...

FH's family is helping us BIG TIME...with the wedding, with our house...with a lot. I'm very close with them and so is FH. My parents are divorced, and remarried (several times for my mom). Financially my dad is helping a tiny bit and mom nada. And step mom bought my dress and is involved a little, but waaayyyyyy more than mom.

So what the hell do I put on the invitation????????

I just feel bad that I'm not putting FH's parents names on it since they're helping us so much...

Yes, I kinda agree...but I feel like if I put everyone...the invite would be ridiculous...how could I put 3 sets of parents names on an invite!!

together with their parents...

to thank his parents take them out to a really special dinner and tell them how much u appreciate everything they have done. and continue thanking them..i think that means more than wording on an invitation. and ppl are not stupid.. theyll know who did what.

for mine i put....

Mr & Mrs ______ and Mr & Mrs ____
request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their children

_______&________

I would put your biological parents on there. Its great that everyone is helping but your parents are your parents and they should be on the invite JMO...

Good Luck!

This is what I plan to do. My parents are divorced and paying for the wedding, FH's parents are together and helping out a little bit (b/c my dad told them to give us a monetary gift instead).

Re: Need Help with a CRAZY Family Situation...

I think you should DEFINATELY make sure you add your FH's parents.
Not only because they have helped so much but because I am sure your FH would appreciate it and it seems like the right thing to do.
If your questioning it now, then you know you that your going to question it later.
In my opinion, if I were you I would mention their names. Here are a few samples I found on a site for you that words it nicely. You can also google other wording options too.

Your very lucky to have such wonderful inlaws and congradulations on your new home!

We kinda had the same problem, I just put together with their parents to save myself the drama. FH's family loves drama! I think together with their parents is the safest route. Maybe get the FIL's a small gift to say thank you with a heartfelt card. Like one of the other girls said, a personal thank you would probably mean more.

I really appreciate all the advice girls!! And thank you, I know I'm very blessed to have them. It's just hard because although they are my biological parents...they haven't really been there...but my dad has been, more than my mom at least, and it's just so confusing!! I'm sure we'll figure it out...

Re: Need Help with a CRAZY Family Situation...

we also have a crazy family sitaution and i had posted about mine. i wanted to do 'the families of' but FH's parents insisted on having their names on there since they were paying. so we ended up doing

The family of (my first last name)
together with
Mr. and Mrs. (his dad's first and last name)
request the pleasure of your company...

i think you should do whatever you feel comfortable with and something that you will feel ok with after the invites go out. if your reception is in a different location, you may need to do a separate reception card.

Re: Need Help with a CRAZY Family Situation...

As a future StepMother I 'd just like to say thanks for not bashing yours.
But..
I would insist my SD would put her Mom and her FH on it.

My FH and I discussed it and it would be ...

Mr and Mrs Mom and fh
and Mr and Mrs FH and me
announce the marriage of their daughter to
Fh mom and dad son
FH

Kinda like that.

I know it's wordy but I read this is done all of the time!

I would keep it simple: Together with our parents...................
With a family dynamic such as yours things are confusing enough.

Re: Need Help with a CRAZY Family Situation...

IMO if they are paying their names should really go on. . . my parents (divorced) are each helping with the cost- and we are putting their names on. . fh's father is not helping at all. . and is not that present and his mom is passed but we are not putting his dad's name on it b/c it just seems like the invitation is from who is hosting. . . I would say program is a nice place to list your parent's names. .

Re: Need Help with a CRAZY Family Situation...

How about....

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shmoe
request the honour of your presence
at the wedding that they are paying for
of their son
Joe Jr
to
Jane Doe
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
[who aren't contibuting much at all

Saturday, the tenth of May
two thousand ten
at one o’clock
......

JUST KIDDING AROUND !!!

as other posters said.. I would just say together with their parents, and if you feel that they need some special recognition, then make a toast to them at the wedding thanking them for their help and commitment to you with the wedding and creating a home, and then I suggest you toast your own parents but for something else so you don't hurt their feelings.

Re: Need Help with a CRAZY Family Situation...

I think that if you do put names the step mother should def be listed... esp since she is helping you out more than your mother. I get the whole biological bond and all... but sometimes a surrogate can mean more and do more and they deserve to be recognized just as much (well actually more in some cases).

I think the together with parents... is great and does cover them all at once. Also, you can take FH parents out to dinner like someone had suggested to thank them. And be honest, just tell them how much you wanted to put their names on the invites but couldn't because of how many parents would have to be named. I'm sure they will understand.

I feel all too often things happen and people have feelings hurt when just a little conversation to explain things will really smooth things over and stop any sort of problem or negative connotation before it even begins. Most people can understand where you are coming from if you just take the time to explain it to them. I know it's easier said than done but I'm sure that will solve everything.
