Need help with an Officiant

Need help with an Officiant

Hi - this is my first post

I was wondering if anyone can suggest a wedding officiant - I am Catholic and my FH is not, so getting married in the RC Church is out of the question. I would like to have a Catholic style service and have noticed that there are a few officiants out there who are former priests and able to do this. We realize the marriage wouldn't be recognized by the church.

If anyone who can offer suggestions or any experiances they've had we'd really appreciate it. We're out of state so we don't have a lot of time for a face to face meeting :(

Thanks in advance!

Why is getting married in the RC Church not an option? Inter-faith marriages are performed all the time.

Try posting on the vendors helping brides board. Good Luck.

Hiya!! We're using Fr. Tom McCormick.

He's really easy-going and very down to earth, and I've heard a lot of good things about him from past brides. I know he'll provide a beautiful service for us, can't wait!!

For a few reasons... the most important one is that my other half does not want to and I respect that.

Thanks for the suggestion - I really would like other people's opinions of their officiants more than anything

Thanks! Fr. Tom was a priest at my family's church a long time ago. I'm glad you found someone that works for you

Does anyone know anything about Fr. Bob Allmen or Rev. David Grainson?

No, he's Baptist. My brother was married by a decon and I really wish he could do our service as well. Please let me know what you find out. My mom was under the impression he couldn't marry us if it wasn't in a chruch. If she is wrong that would be wonderful news... thanks!

UMMM.....I KNOW SHE TOLD ME SHE WAS BROUGHT UP CATHOLIC, AND SHE WENT TO 2 YEARS OF SEMINARY SCHOOL. ARE YOU LOOKING TO DO A FULL MASS WITH COMMUNION? I NEVER DISCUSSED THAT WITH HER. SORRY.

We used Father Joe as well.

We liked him. He surprised us though, b/c he won't deviate from his ceremony. But the ceremony was very nice.

Just FYI - but if having your marriage recognized by the Catholic Church is important to you...it can be even if you do not phsyically get married inside a catholic church - I am doing this. You just have to get a dispensation from the bishop to marry outside the church but they will still recognize your marriage. I am Catholic - FH is jewish. Just like you, FH did not want to get married in my church which I respect his wishes (my father does not but that is a whole other story! )
Anyway - you still have to go to precana but we are doing an interfaith precana which I've heard great things about. You can have a catholic priest marry you and any other officiant you want. We are doing my priest who I grew up with and a rabbi. So it's just a lot of paperwork but it was very important to me - just wanted to let you know in case this is something of importance to you too. If not - disregard! Good luck to you!
