Need help with materials and design for menu cards

Girls,

I'm 1/2 embarassed to ask this question, b/c I feel I should just know the answers. So many of you are so talented, that I know you'll be able to help.

I've got some time, but would like to start thinking about my DIY menu cards....I think I'll probably need from now until July to figure them out! ; )

Here are my questions:

* Is it easier to design a menu in word, powerpoint or some other program? What size font is usually used for heading and then description?

* What does the menu actually get printed on? Is it cardstock? If so, is it the same type of cardstock as you would you use for a back layer or is it thinner like paper?

* What is the best way to stick the printed menu to another layer?

I've tried looking up other threads to help, but nothing answers these questions.

Thank you girls - looking forward to your responses.

I think word would be fine in word, unless you have a layout program like quark or indesign. For font size it depends on the font and the size of paper

You could use card stock or i always like the idea of a textured paper

hmm not sure maybe mounting squares or double sided tape

I think Word is the easiest b/c you can make 2 columns and have 2 menus per page.

What size font is usually used for heading and then description?

this depending on the amount of food you have on your menu. i'd say the meal description 12/14, meal name 14/16, course 16/18

i'm using 80lb. cardstock for the menus and scrapbook/110lb cardstock for the back layer

im partial to double sided tape or glue stick

I am starting to become crafty and has some answers...

The font size depends on the font you are using. Monotype corsiva is pretty small and I think I am doing 12pt size. I did mine in word BUT had to make a part of it upside down (for folding purposes) and had to switch to PP which was a pain. So long store short, I converted it to PP, turned it upside and down and then back to word!!!!!

I bought card stock paper. A package of 50 or 100. I think it was $5 at Michaels.

Also the best way to stick one paper to the other is those roll on doube sided glue. Not sure if you have seen them yet...oh its called a glue runner!!!!!!!

Here are pics of my 2-in-1 menu/donation!
