need help with my mother!!

ok, heres the situation, let me know what you think....for our rehearsal dinner, i was only thinking of inviting anyone directly related to the ceremony (plus our parents & my g'ma of course) & my fh parents are paying for it...now my mom said that its really important to her to ask her siblings to join us as well & she'll pay for them...i feel like if we do that it'll get complicated because we'd have to then invite this one, invite that one & next thing you know, we'll have the wedding! do you think we should invite them (they are my godparents) for the rehearsal dinner or just have a separate private party with them? my fh doesnt think we should invite them b/c we're not inviting his side.....need help!!!!!!

Are they coming in from out of town? When my family was talking about RD my mom said she would like to have her sister there who is coming in from FL for the wedding. Its really up to you do you want them there? But think about it, if it would really make your mom happy to have them there is it really that big of a deal??

I don't think you should invite them. The problem is once you invite one 'aunt' or 'uncle' then you'd have to do the same with his side of the family.. and before you know it, it'll be 30 people at your rehearsal dinner!!

Better keeping it the way it is ..

I don't think you need to invite your parent's siblings unless they're in the BP or doing a reading or something. No need to invite them just because, afterall they'll be at the wedding. The RD is supposed to be for just the BP and immediate family! Your FH is right, you're not inviting his side so it doesn't make sense and isn't fair to his family. The RD should be fairly small and not overrun with 'extra' people. JMO!!

no, theyre all local on the island...i wasnt going to invite them, even though 2 of them are my godparents, but it seems like its really important to my mom (& she gets her feelings hurt easily)...but i dont want to make my future parents & fiance uncomfortable either by having the other family there...i dont know what to do, i feel that we should do a separate dinner for just us, but when they didnt get invited to my cousins rehearsal dinners, they were hurt & i dont want them to feel that way again....im really at a loss right now....

ITS OBVIOUSLY A BIG DEAL TO YOUR MOTHER. WHATS A FEW EXTRA PEOPLE. DON'T FORGET ITS KINDA HER DAY TO. HER DAUGHTERS GETTING MARRIED! SHE WANTS TO SHARE IT WITH THE PEOPLE CLOSE TO HER (BROTHER/SISTER). I SAY LET HER BASQUE IN THE SPOTLIGHT AND ACT THE PROUD MOTHER OF THE BRIDE THAT SHE IS!!

I agree! My FMIL is trying to pull the same stunt...wanting us to invite her family to the rehersal dinner (and we are talking a lot of people) because they are coming our of town...my agruement is 1. then I am having two dinners. 2. The event is no longer intamate. and 3. then once you invite one you have to invite them all. I am sorry but there is only so much one can do and so much one can please. I think brides and groom need to start drawing the line especially if they are paying for the wedding.
