I am trying to put the finishing touches on just how much it all costs... I am up to tipping. I have a few questions... if the dj, videographer, and photographer all own their business do they get tips or do I tip just the assistants? Also, do I tip the officiant? I just want to put enough money aside.

I tipped everyone. I gave business owners modest tips & assistants more generous gratuities. 'the rules' say you don't need to tip business owners, but we felt that all of our vendors were really special & deserved special treatment. I do remember the total tip amount being quite horrifying but in the grand scheme of things it's nothing.

Ok so I should tip: Officiant? Photographer & assistant Videographer & assistant String Trio Flower delivery people? DJ and Assistant Maitre D & Bridal Attendant Valet Parkers????? Make up Hairdresser Is this it???

I do not plan on tipping the valets because I know most people give their own tip when they get their car.

we tipped
dj assistant - $50 (dj owned company) photographer - $200 (owned company but was above and beyond) florist set up people - $200 (florist owned company) valet (about $1.50-$2.00 per person) maitre'd - $800 (not included in overall hall price) pianist $20 (owned company) bridal ast. -($200) limos (included) hair ($75 on a $225 bill makeup $60 on a $175 bill
i would really wait on tipping until after the affair as much as you can. something I learned from another bride - you can always mail it afterwards w. a little thank you note

Jenny - thanks for the mailing idea! I never would have thought of that.
For the videographer and photographer, we could give them the tip at the last payment too since its weeks after the actual wedding.
What is the guideline for the bridal attendant? I've read that the maitre d' is usually $2-$3 per person.

i just figured the bridal asst. deserved it - she was amazing. the maitre'd basically gave us a list of 'suggestions' on gratuity for him, valet and coat check. maitre'd got too much - he was GREAT but come ON - $800....

How did you guys calculate the tips? Was it a percentage of the cost of the service? what about the maitre'd? $800 seems a bit high

there's a hundred lists on here about tips maitre'd sometimes i think venue estimates high. ours originally said $2-4pp now they say $3-5 pp good thing we have less people coming lol
