Need Ideas....

I am throwing my DH a Surprise 40th next month and need ideas for the party! Throw 'em at me ladies...decorations, theme, favors (if any)...gags, etc......what should I do??

that won't work then...his party will be on the 20th (sunday) - his b-day falls on Presidents day (monday, the 21st)

eta: damn, the superbowl/40th was perfect too!!!!

What about doing a theme party around his hobbies or interests? Where are you having it at your house or out somewhere.

I am looking into restaurants in the area...so far it's between IO on Kent Ave, The Pub on Grand St, and The Williamsburg Cafe...
I still have to find out pricing for the WB Cafe. DH LOVES that place and the food is great!!!! Unfortunately I can't do it at home, as my apt could not accomodate 40 ppl...

when i threw Dh a 30th surprise party i did a golf theme since he loves golf. I had made chocolate candiesin teh shpe of golf carts and ball. I had paper plates that had golf on them. I had teh invitations with somethign golf related on it. I had it ata VFW hall b/c i could not do 40 ppl in my apt either.

Good luck let us know what he likes and maybe the LIW girls can help you out.

that's the thing...he doesn't really have a hobby...other than electronics and computer stuff... He likes football, but hardly watches and doesn't play the sport at all anymore. He IS a firefighter, maybe I could do something with that?? Nah, maybe not. I don't know...I'm just fishing here........

It depends on how many people you are having and how many tables you need. I had 25 people and had a blackjack and a poker table.

I paid $375 a table, but had priced them as low as $250 (that includes dealer), you can probably even find lower. I have a gambling family so I wanted it to be as realistic as possible.

I also had a poster made up with DH's face on a poker chip as a sign in board, and personalized decks of cards made up as favors...

You could ask his friends and family to write on an index card a funny story about him and then at the party put them all on a cork boad with some pics for everyone to read.

What about after dinner going to the city and have a band dedicate a song to him?

I had 2 tables and it was plenty...

It was kind of expensive, but I figured, how often am I gonna throw DH a 40th surprise birthday party?

Ok...so how does it work, with the money for gambling I mean?? Do the guests use their own $$ or fake $$...?

eta: I just re-read and saw you had personalized decks of cards as favors! Very cute!! I want to do this now sooooo bad...where'd you order the cards from?
